Austin Peay State University men's golf could have gotten out to the kind of start it enjoyed Monday on the final day of the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championships and really put pressure on eventual champion Jacksonville State. The course was playing with relative forgiveness and birdie putts were there for the taking. But unlike Monday, those early-round birdie attempts were coming up just short, rolling a little long or breaking right at the hole. It's golf—sometimes bad luck is the only luck you can get.So it went for the Govs on Tuesday. You might find this bleak, but there were silver linings all over for Austin Peay despite dropping a spot on the leaderboard. There was a sterling final-round performance from Chase Korte, who became the first Gov since Chris Baker to earn all-tournament honors. At fourth overall, the Govs broke into the top-five as a team (283-286-295--864) for the first time since 2015, with the best three-round stroke total in OVC play since 2011-12. With a lineup heavy on underclassmen, it would appear the Govs are primed for a run next year.
