Interesting post about Power 5 teams that haven't won a national championship in some NCAA sponsored sport since 1998. Hard to believe. And Mississippi State and Texas Tech were basically both a shot away from women's and men's basketball titles, respectively.

Baseball and Track & Field are still active for 2019, the following schools need a win to break their 22 year streak of failing to win a NCAA national championship. FYI, some of these schools have longer active streak, but the data I have starts with the first BCS championship in 1998 fall season. Texas Tech, Mississippi & Mississippi State are ALL still alive in the super regional.

ACC : Pittsburgh
ACC : Virginia Tech*
ACC : North Carolina State

Big Ten : Rutgers

Big 12 : Iowa State
Big 12 : Kansas State
Big 12 : Texas Tech

Pac 12 : Washington State

SEC : Missouri
SEC : Mississippi
SEC : Mississippi State

I started researching.

I know that Mississippi State has never won a national championship- not just since 1998, but ever, according to the announcers in the 2018 women's basketball title game. Virginia Tech hasn't. K-State-none.

Rutgers claims a women's basketball title in 1982. Iowa State has won a number of wrestling titles, the last in 1987 and a pair of cross country titles. Mizzou- baseball in 1954, indoor track in 1965. Wazzu won a cross country title in 1977.

I've watched Pitt win one in football- 1976, NC State in basketball-1974, Ole Miss in football- 1962, Texas Tech- women's basketball-1993.

So it looks like three Power 5 schools haven't won a title yet.

Has Pitt or Ole Miss ever won a title recognized by the NCAA? Football championships (above the FCS level) are unofficial as the NCAA doesn’t sponsor a championship at the highest level.

Rutgers’ basketball was under the AIAW. That was the last year for that group while the NCAA also sponsored a women’s tournament for the first time.

Yes but just as a lurker. Many years ago I actually had a password. Then I wasn't active on it and forgot it. Now I tend to check it almost daily. Some things are interesting- I wasn't too fond of the imaginary posts that some people dreamed up, like Rice going D3. The comedy of reading that Upper Iowa, who is in our conference, could be going D1 makes me think that they should have a contest to see which program will be the next "predicted school to move up.

I liked it when the cleanup batter laid a bunt down third baseline to beat the shift. NO need to make a rule that you can't shift- if he can do it others can too.

Vote has been officially approved to cut baseball after Mr. Charles presentation. In its place, men’s soccer will be added as a reported competitive and cost savings measure eff 20-21 year.

It makes no sense to me to drop baseball and add soccer because they didn't say what the savings would be. CSU is a messed up place.

Very logical move, and one that I predicted :)

gives the Summit 6 baseball schools, preserves the Conference as a multi-sport, provides a closer home for UNC Baseball, against teams that are more familiar with the Bear fans, and for the most part have the same or worse spring weather as UNC (in the WAC, they have to face CA/AZ/NM teams that can play year-round
