Ouch! In a conference tournament that was only two rounds (is that rare considering it seems most conferences go atleast three?), Grambling lost by over 400 shots compared to the top team in the conference...

Jackson St shot a 630 (326-304) compared to Grambling's 1064 (529-535). That's 434 shots over two rounds...Jackson St is a very solid golf program, especially as far as the SWAC goes. Congrats to the Tigers on their womens' golf win!

http://swac.org/06-07/golf/womens%20final%20short.pdf

On the mens' side, Valley is about 360 shots off the pace after two rounds. Jackson St should easily cruise to that title...

Man.....................JSU is a solid program no matter what conference. xlolx
We have not been challenged in golf ............since....................EVER. xlolx
Ain't Gram's or nobody elses fault in the SWAC.
They routinely kick the big boy's arses.

These guy's practice on some of the best courses in the STATES.
The tournament was in TUNICA and if you have ever been to one of those casino golf courses up there, you can see what they practice on all year long here in Jackson.

Eddie Payton has the golf program rolling.
JSU Head Golf Coach Eddie Payton has won 18 consecutive men's titles and 9 women's championships

BTW: The men are wasting the field in the same mannor. xnodx

Sounds like all the Grambling golfers had a bad round all at once, and these things happen more often in HS and College golf than you might think. xsmashx

Does Jackson State step up and play major golf tournaments? In the two tournament stories I saw on their web site, it didn't seem like they were in any top-notch fields. How have they done in the NCAAs?

I'm no golf expert. SLC has gotten two teams in the last few years and Lamar and SELA are both ranked top 35 with Lamar in the top 10..not bad...

Apparently, JSU just had a lengthy streak broke by Texas Southern! GO TIGERS!

Texas Southern Tigers Capture Men Golf SWAC Championship

Tunica, MS- Texas Southern ended Jackson State’s 19 year winning streak today, by winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship Tournament in Tunica, MS.

TSU trailed Jackson State by three shots after the first round…but the Tigers shot two rounds of 308 and 298 to capture the title with a final score of 937 at the Tunica National Golf & Tennis Club (par 72 - 6787 yards).

Two Texas Southern players finished tied for first place. Devon Robinson, freshman from Nassau, Bahamas and Jacob Scriven, junior from Uxbridge, Canada both finished the tournament with 232. John P. Thornton, senior from Memphis, TN finished sixth with 234 and Richardo Davis, freshman from Nassau, Bahamas finished ninth with 239.

Devon Robinson was the most celebrated golfer on the TSU Team. He tied for top medalists; He was named to the All-SWAC Tournament Team; he was named Freshman of the Year; and he was named to the All-SWAC Academic Team.

Jacob Scriven, John Thornron and Richardo Davis were also named to the All-SWAC Tournament team.

This is TSU’s first Golf Championship win in 21 years. Coach Hank Stewart was named Men Golf Coach of the year. This win put him is a class by himself. He is the only SWAC coach to win the Championship as a player, an assistant coach and a head coach.

Hey................Had to lose to a conference team at one point and time
CONGRAT's TSU. xnodx

JSU plays outside the conference in other tournaments.
We got screwed in 1995 when they gave the nod to Southwestern.

Payton thinks the Tigers deserve a spot ahead of Southwestern Louisiana, which finished no higher than third in any tournament. Jackson State won five tournaments, was five strokes better than Southwestern in their head-to-head competition last fall and had a stroke average of 298.5 to Southwestern's 301.1. (AP)

Seems like typical banter from an HBCU fan...

Folks question the strength of schedule despite 'impressive' marks. I checked out the JSU golf tournament results posted on their schedule. Can't say I was too impressed...

You being not impressed with JSU don't mean SHAT.xlolx
A Hundred years from now it still won't mean SHAT. xlolx

Just like with Coastal................I could care less about the ongoing's at Texas whatever it's called. xnodx

You have fun as usual. xnodx
