From the AP article, "Rafael Palmeiro was suspended 10 days for violating Major League Baseball's steroids policy Monday, nearly five months after the Baltimore Orioles first baseman emphatically told Congress that ``I have never used steroids. Period.''
Palmeiro has now lied to Congress during Senate hearings. Congrats Rafael! You know, you were already borderline for getting into the HOF, but now this could really change how voters will vote as it relates to you. I was thinking a first-time HOF was doubtful, but now your looking at a tough road...
I like what Lance Armstrong said on the Jim Rome show awhile back. He said, if you freeze my urine, go for it and I hope you test in 15 years when your technology is better, because you'll get the answers then that you have today. I am innocent and always will be. That's paraphrasing it.

He joined Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Eddie Murray as the only players with 3,000 hits and 500 homers last week.

I know, he's amazing when it comes to stats, but it just seemed as the media was not too friendly to him as a HOF player. And because of that, I doubted his chances, atleast as a first-timer...

Yea, because he played for 3 million years.
I agree with Bayless. Hall of Very Good, not Hall of Fame.

Palmeiro hasn't caught Willie Mays or Hank Aaron in number of at bats yet and is still two and three years behind them in seasons played. Not trying to say that Raffy is Willie or Hank, but many consider Willie to be one of THE best ever and Hank was a no brainer HOF inductee.
Hank Aaron: 23 Seasons, 3298 games, 12364 at bats
Wilie Mays: 22 Seasons, 2992 games, 10881 at bats
Rafael Palmeiro: 19 seasons, 2721 games, 10103 at bats (coming into this year)

I'm not in any way condoning Steroids (I think that proven users should be thrown out of baseball — and that includes guys like Bonds and Giambi who have been implicated in the Balco scandal, please relwase the grand jury testimony and evidence), but here are some facts:
Hank Aaron played 1954-1976 (23 years), 3298 games, 12,364 at-bats.
Willie Mays played 1951-1973 (22 years, missed most of 1952-34 games played-and all of 1953 for military service), 2992 games, 10,881 at bats.
Eddie Murray played 1977-1997 (21 years), 3,026 games, 11,336 at bats.
Rafael Palmeiro has played 1986-2005 (20 years), 2,721 games and 9,229 at bats through 2004. His stats compare VERY favorably with Murray and well enough with Mays and Aaron. Aaron, as a matter of fact, had very similar consistency through the years. Palmeiro's problems were that he was always playing in smaller markets (Texas, Baltimore) and didn't get the publicity of other players.
On numbers alone, he is a sure-fire HOF on the first ballot. This will probably be the first test case on how the steroid generation is perceived by the HOF voters.

Wasn't he also doing ads for Viagra?? Combined with steroids--that's nothing to shake a stick at..

I have to give Raffy the benefit of the doubt on this one. I would like to know what he tested positive for. Was it actually steroids or something else that gave a positive test? He seems like a pretty smart guy and to take something knowingly like anebolic(sp??) steroids at this point of his career would be a brain fart of epic proportions. The one thing i find interesting is the same day Raffy tests positive Bonds decides to hang it up for the season. Did Raffy's positive test for band substance scare off Bonds?

Before this, guaranteed first ballot Hall of Famer...absolutely 100% no doubt.
There isn't a player with 3,000 hits or 500 home runs who isn't (or won't be) in the Hall of Fame. He has BOTH.

And both a player saying he shot up Pally and now Pally tests positive. Is there a player with 3,000 hits or 500 home runs who is in the HOF as a proven banned drug user? Don't cry for Pally, America...
As I said......
Before this, guaranteed first ballot Hall of Famer.........
I don't believe anyone is crying for Pally, he made his bed, now he's gotta lay in it.

I hope I never get arrested for urinating in public. Did you guys know that's technically a sex offense? You guys would string me up for being a pedophile. We don't know what substance he used or how he used it, does anyone even have a list of what is on the MLB banned substance list? Shame on you guys. :(

It is sad to see MLB's reputation sink so low. This is the sport I respected the most as a young kid. I think lifetime bans are extreme, but I have no interest in watching Barry Bonds or Palmeiro play in the future.

Which nobody knew when this thread was started.....btw,.....
"The person who said that Palmeiro tested positive for stanozolol did not want to be identified because the testing policy prohibits anyone in baseball from disclosing information about test results without authorization, the Times said."

Which makes it even more "fishy" since he tested positive this spring and wasn't suspended until after getting to 3,000 hits. That's like suspending a player in in July and telling them they can serve their time in spring training.

This guy should be charged by the Senate for lying!!! He's such a pudd! I for one hope he doesn't get into the hall. Oh...yes you can bet your sweet arsh Bonds hung it up because he got scared...he's got to give his body time to flush out. Next year IF he comes back I guarantee you....no more than 30 HRs...no more than 30! Of course everyone is gonna blame his injury for the decline but all of these guys....McGwire,Bonds, and Raffy have tainted the records of those who came before them! They have IMO ruined what the sport was all about. No doubt fans love the long ball.....I can also tell you that more then 75% of the owners in the MLB encouraged steroid use. They need things to be done to put the asses in the seats....St. Louis wasnt getting the fans in...so Mark was thier man......of course he'd been doing it for years but thats beside the point. Chicag was selling out games when Sammy and Mark battled for HRs. How long were the Giants in the red?...LMAO...BArry was a decent long ball hitter than he went to SF and WOW he exploded!....Raffy was pointed out in Canseo's book as being a user when he got to Texas....and hmmm when did Raffy really start crashing the ball...TEXAS!........I'M out :bang:
