Another chapter in the books.

Questions:

1.) Will the Patriots keep the train rolling or is Gronk going to be the first in a mass-exodus from Boston?

2.) The Rams, Saints, and Chiefs have a lot of young talent. Which ones do you think will be back in the Super Bowl hunt next season?

3.) Will Mahomes be able to replicate his historic season or did Belichick show the league the keys to success?

4.) Where will Nick Foles land and will Carson Wentz prove to be the righr decision for the Eagles?

5.) Where will Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown be next season?

6.) Will the Browns be in the playoffs next year?

7.) With a roster thats still loaded with talent, can the Giants find their way back to relevance?

8.) Way-too-eary MVP pick?

9.) NFC and AFC playoff dark horses?

10.) NFC and AFC Superbowl dark horses?

11.) Favorites to be in the Superbowl and winner?

Answers:

1.) As long as Belichick is there they will be a contender.
2.) The Saints and the Chiefs. I don't know if LA can hold it together on D. Lot of mouths to feed.
3.) No, he'll be good but he'll return to Earth. The AFC game was proof that he's still got a ways to go.
4.) Jags and no, Wentz is gonna be the new Romo. Fight me.
5.) Packers and Arizona, respectively.
6.) Magic 8-ball says "don't count on it" They have the roster but I don't think they have the coaching.
7.) They'll be aite if they stay healthy.
8.) Aaron Rodgers
9.) 49ers and the Raiders
10.) Packers and the Texans
11.) Saints and the Patriots. Breesus gets #2.

Playoff teams-
NFC N- Packers
NFC E- Dallas
NFC S- Saints
NFC W- LA
WC- 49ers
WC- Bears

AFC N- Ravens
AFC E- Pats
AFC S- Texans
AFC W- KC
WC- Raiders
WC- Jaguars

I'm a little biased, but I think the Colts will overtake the Texans in the AFC South. They have most of the pieces in place to be contenders for the remainder of Luck's career.

It wouldn't surprise me. The Colts are like 2 or 3 good players from being a helluva team. My Texans pick has a bit of bias as well. They could use some secondary help. That and help on the OL. Draft DeAndre Baker, snag a running back in the second, and sign a veteran OL or two and the Texans are nuts.

The whole Wentz situation with the Eagles will be fascinating. He basically admitted he was a bit of an ass. I don't think a single player in the NFL enters 2019 with more to prove. And he has to do it in Philly. The Eagles still have a roster loaded with talent and I'm a big Pederson fan so expectations should be very high....

I'll go with a Colts-Bears Super Bowl as of now. A rematch of Super Bowl XLI....

I think the Iggles will be in the hunt again. Lots of talent on the team and Howie has been able to supplement the past few years. Division should come down to Cowboys and Iggles.

I'd give the division to the Eagles if I was sure Romo Jr. would make it past week 6.

They aren't going to have BDN to bail their ass out this time.

Some thoughts 1 week post-Super Bowl

1.) Pats will be good as long as Belichick is there

2.) I think all three will be back in the hunt. Saints have the biggest question mark surrounding Brees (how much longer does he have?), but all 3 are talented

3.) Numbers won't be as good, but Mahomes is for real. Those keys only work if Belichick coaches the other 30 teams (the Chiefs put up 24 4th quarter points in that game; defense, not Mahomes, lost it)

4.) I think Foles stays, but Wentz is the better long-term call in Philly. Injuries are a concern though, I think

5.) I've seen Bell's name floated out for the Jets and Texans, gonna say Houston. Not sure about Brown, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him stay in Pittsburgh; Green Bay is a nice choice though

6.) No, but they will continue to improve. Still need a big step forward for the playoffs, already took large one this past year. Could be close, but the AFC is pretty deep at the top.
7.) QB situation aside, the Giants need defensive help. If they get it between FA/the Draft, they can get into the NFC conversation; 4-8 in 1-score games last year xbangx

8.) Andrew Luck

9.) NFC - 49ers; AFC - Jets

10.) NFC - Bears; AFC - Texans

11.) Saints over Chiefs

For giggles:
NFC N - Bears
NFC E - Eagles
NFC S - Saints
NFC W - Rams
WC - Vikings
WC - 49ers

AFC N - Ravens
AFC E - Patriots
AFC S - Colts
AFC W - Chiefs
WC - Texans
WC - Jets

Don't know if this belongs here but NDSU's Easton Stick had a pretty good day at the combine:

1st - 20 yard shuffle
1st - 3 Cone Drill
3rd - Broad Jump
3rd (tied) - High Jump
3rd - 40 Yard Dash

If was hard to tell how anyone was throwing the ball well given the ****ty angles and spotty coverage of this by the NFL network.

Lehigh's Dom Bragalone had a tryout day with the Eagles last week and all reports are that they and at least half dozen other teams are impressed with his numbers, interviews and performances. I think he definitely can succeed with a team that employs a fullback. Good blocker and good hands and deceptively quick for his size.

Likely NFL games on the CHIP72 schedule:

09/22 (Sun): Lions at Eagles
10/06 (Sun): Jets at Eagles
10/13 (Sun): Eagles at Vikings
11/03 (Sun): Bears at Eagles
12/15 (Sun): Eagles at Redskins

The Sunday 12/29 Eagles/Giants game at the Meadowlands is also a possibility.

There's a part of me that really wants to do the Saturday 10/19 Temple/SMU and Sunday 10/20 Eagles/Cowboys doubleheader in the Metroplex, but I have a hard time justifying in my own mind doing flight-required road trips on back-to-back weekends (and I'd like to do that Eagles/Vikings game because that game won't be on TV in DC and that weekend will almost definitely be a four day weekend for me). If I went to the DFW area on that 10/19 & 10/20 weekend, I'd also miss Lafayette's game at Georgetown scheduled for Saturday 10/19 (though I have skipped Lehigh's and Lafayette's alternating visits to Georgetown in some past seasons, including Lehigh's game in DC against the Hoyas last year).

I should note that if I do attend the Sunday 10/13 Eagles/Vikings game, I'll also try to attend the Saturday 10/12 Nebraska/Minnesota game. (With luck, the NHL Wild will be at home and/or the MLB Twins will be hosting ALCS games that weekend too; if they are, I'll try to also attend games for one or both of those teams. I think the NBA season won't start until a few days after that weekend, so the Timberwolves won't be an option.)

Is it not concerning that major sports leagues are considering banning drills because the risk of head injury is too high? The Oklahoma drill is a physical drill, but I mean, it pretty much simulates the game, doesn't it?

Like, there's an acceptable risk of head trauma in the games, but let's reduce that risk of head trauma in practice?

Some pretty good NFL debuts for a couple former Bison.

QB Easton Stick threw an early INT but had another good drive with some nice throws and ran for a 31 yd TD for the Chargers.

WR Darius Shephard made a nice TD catch for the Packers.

Wow, what a 'homecoming'. 8 catches for 157 yards! Talk about 'stretching the field'. This will open all sorts of options for Wentz.

I like it. Doesn't really come into play that often, but keeping it in the rules as an option doesn't hurt anything.
I also think they should incentivize the drop kick like the Arena league does (or at least used to), with a drop-kicked XP being worth 2 points and a drop-kicked FG being worth 4 points

1968. Chicago at Green Bay. Bears hit a field goal after a fair catch to beat the Packers 13-10. First time I had heard of this rule.

Last game of the season. Vikings had to win in Philadelphia and hope that the Packers won in Chicago. They did 28-27 and the Vikings 8-6 had their first Central Division title despite losing twice to Chicago 7-7 during the season.

Not a Lions fan but they really got hosed tonight. That no call on the PI on Green Bay was kind of tough and a huge play. The speed of football and the antiquated rules make it really tough to officiate. Green Bay would have probably still won if the zebra's hadn't screwed up that hands to the face call at the end of the game. It would have just been a little longer field goal.

I was going to saw that Detroit screwed themselves with 12 men on the field, changing a field goal into a touchdown after the first down. Then I read this.

"The officials flagged the Lions for lining up with 12 players, leading to a Packers touchdown. On the very next drive, the officials didn't flag the Packers for lining up with 13 players"

I had a good chuckle at how happy some were when the regular NFL officials ended their work stoppage a few years back. I didn't think the replacement refs were that much worse than the regular NFL officials but every mistake was magnified and blown out of proportion when these pretty bad missed calls in last nights game will be forgotten in a few weeks when the next round of awful calls/no-calls can dominate talk.

That is unless a bad call happens to the Saints... cuz if it happens to the Saints those whiny ass fans will make sure everyone hears about it for the rest of eternity.

Agreed and that defense.....woof. They won't win consistently until they get a secondary that can cover people. The dline isn't getting enough pressure on the QB and the LB's are awful. Yes, I went to watch with my 90 year old mother (married to a football coach for 68 years) who has no one at her assisted living facility interested at all in football to watch with her. She was as apoplectic in the first half. I had to leave at halftime to go home, but I was concerned that those living in apartments on either side of her might have had trouble sleeping with the ranting and raving! One of the worse exhibitions of football by an Iggles team in a long, long time. I have real concern that the can turn this around. In their division, 9 wins might win it, but why bother? They aren't going anywhere with the 'attitude' shown. There was a lot of horrendousness to go around. About the only player with a decent night was the kicker, and possibly Howard (he's a hard runner). Major, major problems all around.

Yeah that isn't happening. If he isn't gone for at least the rest of the season, I'd be shocked. I'd expect around 10 games for something like that.

That was the first Steelers game I've watched in awhile and I agree Rudolph was terrible. I was ready to punch the TV when they went for it on 4th and 1 out of a timeout and had him throwing it. WTF!

Garrett hit with an "indefinite" suspension. Pouncey suspended 3 games. All I can say is if they suspend Pouncey 3 games for defending his QB that just got his helmet ripped off and bludgeoned with it they better give Garrett a lot more than the rest of this season (which would be 6 games).

Not sure if it's possible/legal but if I'm the Steelers I pay Pouncey's game check fines for him.

Rudolph is lucky that his head was turned slightly away and the crown of the helmet didn't hit him or he could have had a bad head injury.

Garrett is a clown and should not play the rest of the year. No pay. Going into next year would be fitting also with the suspension.

Just watched a replay of the Steelers/Browns game. Ugh, what a mess at the end!
No real reason for Garrett to even hit Mason, certainly no reason for him to take him to the ground.
Then Mason escalates things by grabbing at Garrett.
Then of course Garrett goes psycho.

And they really should have just called the game at that point. Only 8 seconds left with Cleveland up by 14, so the game is over. But I suppose they are required to finish it just to cater to the degenerate gamblers because one team or other just might score in those meaningless 8 seconds which could affect the spread.

Yes, he missed some guys, but also had some dropped on him that should have been nice gains. The one in the end zone was a difficult catch. Regardless, I was pleased with the Iggles 'D'. They seem to have gotten their mojo back with the return of some personnel. Offense in major need of a deep threat. Having Jackson and Jeffrey out really puts pressure on the O. If they can find a way to beat Seattle next week, they can still have a decent shot at winning the division. I see a WC as slim, unless some others collapse.

That being said, Wentz is missing throws and probably taking too much time in the pocket but that also may be on the WR as none of those guys get separation. They are chances at the end and couldn't get it done, a lot of that is on Wentz but the pickings are slim for ball catchers on that team.

29 of those 33 were fined a set amount for "entering fighting area".
This would make sense if all those were players that were not participating in the play itself, but ran over from the bench area when the fight broke out.
doesn't seem fair that someone that was already in the area would get fined for being there when they were already there, and weren't involved in the actual fight.

Garrett in deep doo-doo. Maybe an opening for him on his brother's staff at Laughyette! Great game for the Iggles. Then now hold their fate in their hands. A very weak schedule down the home stretch with the 'boys being the 'absolute must' win for the tie breaker if needed. However, Dallas' schedule has a few other potential pot holes.

Iggles look like they will be without Ertz this Sunday (and possibly beyond) with a hammy problem. How serious being kept under wraps, but a bad hammy can take a lot of time depending on severity.

Ertz is the most overrated TE in the NFL, he never gets any YAC and has a ton of drops. Dropped a TD pass today which looks like it may be a game changer. Feel down running a simple route early in the game that almost resulted in an INT. Trade him and use Goedert, at least he is a threat to maybe get a few yards after a catch.

Mash squad? The eagles top three wide outs are either rookies or came off the practice squad. Same is true for their top two running backs and their top WR has been cut from the team three times in the past.

They’re also missing their all pro tackle.

Meanwhile they just beat a squad of skill players including Elliot, Cooper, Cobb, Gallup, and Witten playing behind a line with 3 all pros.

My expectations are low considering how banged up they are but writing them off as a guaranteed out is a bit aggressive.

Eagles are without their entire starting WR corps (DJax, Alshon, and Agholor), their starting RB (Jordan Howard), starting RT (Lane Johnson), starting DT (Malik Jackson) as well as major contributors RB Darren Sproles, RB Corey Clement, LB Kamu Grugier-Hill. Most of the secondary was gone for a three game stretch earlier in the season as well. Not to mention, Zack Ertz injured his ribs on the first drive last night and missed significant time.

Thank God for the Dakota directional schools giving us a couple of guys who can still ball through that many injuries! ;)

Meanwhile...

The Cheatriots will be playing Wild-Card for the first time since 2009 by losing to the cellar-dwelling Dolphins.

Defense completely failed them on that last drive. No way they win 3 straight playoff games this season. With a bye they had a shot now they're done.

Bills suffered some key injuries in their loss to the Jets. Both AFC East teams are staggering into the playoffs....

You have to take a number to get in the "tent" for the Eagles now.

If the Seahawks had Fargodome goal lines they'd be NFC West champions.

Apparently they also use our clock management techniques

does the Fargodome not have regulation markings? (I've never paid that much attention)

If the Seahawks had Fargodome goal lines they'd be NFC West champions.Depends on which end zone, I think the lines bow back on the south end and out on the north end, or is it the other way around? But yea, that extra 1/4 yard would have helped them. That was a debacle at the end of the game, missed a clear PI and then they get a delay of game.

This is for you, POD. I made the trip up the turnpike yesterday with my youngest son. Here's the reverse angle from my phone of Carson's heave across the field to Perkins. Love the stadium noise build with Eagles fan anticipation. We owned MetLife last night:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk_44QqVH7AWhen he let the ball go I thought it had pick 6 written all over it because everybody was on the right hand side of the field. It is pretty cool what the Eagles did in the last 4 games. I have never seen a team with this many injuries. I think they have an outside chance of beating the Seahawks but who knows. I have been giving some of the Viking fans **** up here because they only won one more game than the Eagles did and the Eagles did it with a practice squad.

Everyone in the NFL has injuries, but this is truly exceptional this year. Major contributors off of the Eagles practice squad yesterday: Boston Scott, Greg Ward, and, wait for it... Deontay Burnett. Who?

Carson is the first QB with 4,000+ passing yards in a season in Eagles history, and he did it without a single WR getting 500 yards. That's infreakingsane.

Yea, they had to improvise big time on offense. Their D has a ton of injuries as well. One thing I have noticed about Carson is how much trouble he has with short throws, I mean, not just off target but just plain ugly. He is great throwing the ball down the field and I hope they keep getting him out of the pocket because he is pretty good when he is moving although he has clearly lost a step or two from his college days.

That team showed a lot of heart this year, I have to admit, I gave up on them when they were 5-7, it looked pretty dismal at the time.

Noticed this in both Giants games. Wonder if it was a combo of the rain and wearing gloves which was the case in both of those games. He needs to find something that works better though in adverse weather conditions because it really effects his accuracy on short throws for some reason. The injuries for the Eagles has just gotten insane. There was a waiting line for the medical tent last night! Hopefully they can get some guys healthy for a PO run.

Eagles game was amazing. Pederson deserves COY for the way he has been able to have this team continue winning with only half a starting lineup and no original skill players on offense, other than Wentz. They way this team continues to back each other up tells you alot about the players, but also their leaders. I see them beating Seatle. Heavy underdogs after that, although they could get Desean and Ertz back by Divisional games and maybe Johnson. Sanders, hopefully, can go next week.
Wentz amazes me with ability to throw so well on the run...yet, the short passes at the feet is disconcerting. McNabb had the same problem

5dimes has 2 lines right now. One is -1.5 Seattle and the other is pick.

Schumer is gone from the Giants after only two seasons. But the Browns fired their Freddie after only one?

I guess that Jerry Glanville was right- NFL stands for Not For Long.

Don't be surprised if current Baylor head coach Matt Rhule is hired for one of the NFL head coaching openings, particularly the one with the Giants.

Yup! He made it pretty clear while at Temple his ultimate goal was to be a HC in the NFL. The Giants are the logical choice. I'll be shocked if he doesn't land there.

It’s more like the Giants would probably be Rhule’s preferred choice considering he grew up in New York as a Giants fan.

I think Carolina would be a good fit for him if he isn’t offered the Giants job.

Interesting that Arthur Blank and the Falcons went the opposite direction on Dan Quinn.

Falcons finished the season 5-2 and beat both New Orleans and San Francisco on the road. The players seem to love the guy. Sometimes you have to stick with the guy you hired and let him work though the ups and downs.

I've never really understood why some franchises stay so bad for so long. This isn't college football, with inherent geographic and monetary disadvantages. NFL teams have roughly the same money and access to largely the same player pool.
