McNeese gets to host Sam Houston and SLU. But the Cowboys have to travel to ACU, UCA, and Nicholls. That is an extremely tough conference road schedule, and two of them are the really far trips, ACU and UCA.

I like UIW's. Only travel out of state once in conference (SELA) and the trips from San Antonio to Houston, Huntsville, and Nacogdoches are all 5 hours or less. Not too bad.

Well it came with a software for video production so I hope so. But I did notice we are hiring a person to run it on gameday soooooo who knows.

A bit of bad news for us is that it appears we may have lost one of our OL grad transfers. It is still not completely confirmed. At least our OL depth is still fairly strong and an area where we had plenty of starters back. It could come back to haunt us late in the season though. Oops, meant to tell you Bear that the reason for my advertising comment is because of what we have gone through with our new board. Yes, we have the video software and we can run full screen video if we want. Unfortunately during the games though the board is about 1/3 advertising on the sides. I am sure it is written into contracts.

It looks like ucasports is doing a position by position preview on their website. First up, QBs. Good read about them plus it gives a little perspective on what happened last year. Two of our QBs out in the fourth game PLUS the third string QB was actually recovering from surgery and wasn't really ready... but it worked out and he held his own the best he could as a freshman. I gotta ask..especially since we are in the South....do those things have A/C? I've seen field conditions at field level at UCA at the 130 degree mark. I couldn't imagine a shipping container being all that cool. Great idea though.

If not, I would go ahead and buy a portable airconditioner. You can get them at Walmart. The question would be electricity and if they would also let you bring a generator. Then again, I would imagine that most of your time would be spent in front, or on top, of it. I would still at least want a portable airconditioner either way.

ACU getting some love from Athlon: The Wildcats were picked seventh in the Southland Conference preseason poll. That will be wrong. They have too strong of a team and too good of a head coach (Adam Dorrel, who guided Northwest Missouri State to three Division II national titles) to finish that low. A gaudy 18 starters return from the first winning season in their Division I era. Junior quarterback Luke Anthony passed for more than 3,000 yards a year ago and is surrounded by offensive weapons. Former South Dakota State defensive coordinator Clint Brown should boost a defense that is led by senior middle linebacker Jeremiah Chambers.

It's that time of year. It's mega hot throughout the south and NFL scouts are making their rounds. We've had several roll through, as I'm sure a lot of school have ... His teams always had good defenses and I was on board with bringing him on as DC so being able to get him for an analyst role is awesome. We also brought in a guy that has a lot of experience in lower level ball as an offensive analyst. We've never had these positions before so this is really a step up for us.

Great question, we have never had these positions before. We now have both offensive and defensive analysts. From what we know so far, they will look at stats, games, percentages, etc... and analyze which are the best plays for any given situation. Then, other duties as assigned :) I would imagine they would help the coordinators make decisions and what best to look at; just extra bodies and resources. Others may have more specifics.

Lance is a good coach but it will be interesting how well his defense adapts to the hurry up offenses in the SLC. Last year was not stellar as the Poke D leaked pretty bad at times against the passing games of Northern Colorado, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Northwestern State and even Houston Baptist.

Last year, we had an NFL guy, who was a great guy and a good football mind, but had never been a coordinator and had zero previous experience defending uptempo, spread offenses. And it showed. A lot of our issues defensively last year had nothing to do with players. When we played teams that were slower paced, and we knew where the QB was going to be, we were pretty good. Unfortunately, we didn't play enough of those type of teams. I expect we'll be much improved.

I agree though Orgeron started against us last year. Tabary came in and wasn't effective. We also saw the third team guy for a play or two I think . We defended LSU pretty well for the same reasons and did a good job against NW State and Lamar. We had problems when things sped up and had problems making adjustments. That and not enough depth once injuries piled up. We're light years better right now than at any point last year.

There are actually two public groups on Facebook for Cowboy Fans. One is named Geauxcowboys Dot Com and the other is named Poke Fans. You can find them by searching for the names on Facebook. You have to make a request to join but we just about approve everybody on Geauxcowboys Dot Com. As far as Poke Fans, I have no control. The old Geauxcowboys Fan Forum was shut down from lack of use because the Facebook groups are just too convenient. Plus we have more members on the Facebook group than we ever did on the old Geauxcowboys Fan Forum.

I think Lake Charles might have been getting more thunderstorms than here. I say that because the second of only two McNeese scrimmages was shortened due to the weather.

Just awful! Let's hope all of the bad weather does its stuff now and behaves itself during the regular season. Last year in Texas, so many high school games were delayed by lightning strikes -- an epidemic, and my high school team in Louisiana played one quarter and then the game was cancelled due to the weather. The McNeese-Nicholls game was delayed by lightning strikes and torrential rains. I can't remember it ever being so bad as it was last year for so much of the season.

I was sure your kicker was going to nail that kick. He boomed a 51 yarder earlier. I'm just glad to move past your team...what a game! You should be proud of that effort. I gotta see the stats for that game. I know Breylin completed nearly 70% of his passes but your QB hit critical ones we couldn't. ACU should be a tough game for every SLC team this season.
