It has been almost a week since National Championship #15 for the North Dakota State University football team.

The 2019 season opener against the Butler Bulldogs at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis is only a mere 231 days away (33 weeks).

Get fired up!

How many Bison fans will be at Target Field? I will be with my family. Heck this is a home game for us.

I wonder where most people will be tailgating? There isn't anything around the stadium.

Maybe the farmers market.
Maybe the state fairgrounds.

We will be tailgating somewhere for sure.

Could always do the Parking garages. xlolx

I wonder if the Twins will work with the Vikings (if there is no game) and see if they can open up those lots to the North of the Stadium and then people walk the mile or so from those lots to Target Field. The problem is, they didn't think about the tailgating when they did this. What would be most ideal, is if they did what they did for the Superbowl. Shut down Nicollet Mall for a small stretch and make that Bison tailgating for the game. Places like The Local, Brits Pub, etc... open up early for English FA games and this would be a perfect opportunity for the City of Minneapolis to open their arms to the biggest college football program in the area, while also supporting the local establishments in the area. xdrunkyx

Great question. The state fair will be going on- that makes things a total mess on I-35 and I-94. At least Gopher football against the Bunnies is Thursday night. That will be a big MVFC weekend in the Twin Cities.

From the looks of it there's already 30k+ tickets sold for this one. Pretty much everything but the 3rd deck is sold out. Here's the current seat map of available seats/sections:

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7820/46704742741_a88d88ee2f_c.jpg

I don't think they sold 2nd and 3rd deck tickets in the left field endzone because you can't really see the endzone from there since those decks are basically stacked on top of each other.

I was told yesterday from the AD office that this game is well north of 30K sold. I think St Johns/St Thomas had around 35-36K fans at their game. NDSU/Butler should go above that.

I went to the Target Field website and there are still tickets available and I think some sections haven't been released yet. Probably will sell out by game time.

Watching this one from one of the suites and looking forward to it.

I think it will only be a matter of time before NDSU/UND will have a game down there. It would draw more than a Gopher game if it was at US Bank....xnodx

Butler beat YSU by 2 in Youngstown so add the 3 extra points for home field that's Butler +5. NDSU beat YSU by 10 in Fargo so subtract the 3 points for home field that's NDSU +7. Therefore on a neutral field NDSU will win by 2. It's science.

Spread? 40+

I have no idea what Coach Entz will do when the Bison are way ahead. I'm assuming he will be like Klieman and take the foot off the pedal.

One thing is for sure, NDSU is not a Youngstown. Butler will not be in the game. With the OL going to be very good, I suspect a lot of running....easily over 300 yards and probably over 400.

5dimes has the line at NDSU -48.5. As we say up here... "Oof-da!"

On another note there are only 1,328 seats left for sale from the Twins' website. Target Field seats 39,500 but they haven't opened up sales in the 3rd deck down the 1st base line or seats in the 2nd and 3rd deck in left field (since they'd have an obstructed view of the endzone in left field).

Yes, at 18. Too much money- too many bad characters drawn to it- OD. Jody had substance abuse too but survived it to be a drug counselor.

They say that Brian committed suicide but some people insist that it was a gun accident. I guess we will never know for sure.

NDSU might be the best team in FCS, and Butler might be the worst.

Even with Pace Temple and a decent quarterback, Butler was bottom 20 material last year. With their best 2018 players gone, this could be an abysmal Butler team. I'm talking "sigh of relief we're not playing San Diego this year, because we'd lose by 50" abysmal.

Whatever Butler is getting paid, it's not enough.

Nothing wrong with that IMO when you're playing a clearly overmatched team. But this is a MVSU type mismatch and NDSU, with Klieman as the HC, won that one by 65.

I can see NDSU covering most of the 48 point spread in the first half.... like 38-0 by halftime. If they don't and only take a 20-25 point lead into the break they probably don't cover since they will shut it down in the 2nd half but the 1st half should be pedal to the metal.

Yep. It was originally supposed to be a guarantee game in Fargo. The Twins approached NDSU about doing this. The agreement was that the Twins pick up Butler's $185K guarantee that NDSU agreed to pay them plus NDSU gets a hefty amount from the Twins based on ticket sales. The initial report was that a sellout would net NDSU $600K (and it's pretty close to a sellout right now) but I've heard rumors that the figure the Twins will be sending to NDSU will actually be bigger than that.

In all honesty this is a home run for the NDSU AD from a business perspective. They take a boring non-conference opponent and turn it into an event in the prime of their recruiting footprint. On top of it all they're going to walk away with a paycheck as big or bigger than any FBS game would've netted them (if they could find FBS teams to play them).

That said I have doubts that they'd be able to sell this amount of tickets again if they don't get a better quality opponent. So it was probably a saavy move to play an opponent like Butler in this game since the event itself will be the draw but I'd expect that if they do this again we'll see a higher profile opponent.

In all honesty this is a home run for the NDSU AD from a business perspective. They take a boring non-conference opponent and turn it into an event in the prime of their recruiting footprint. On top of it all they're going to walk away with a paycheck as big or bigger than any FBS game would've netted them (if they could find FBS teams to play them) plus they get to raise the banner against GFCC instead of Butler. This is the definition of a homerun for NDSU.

That said I have doubts that they'd be able to sell this amount of tickets again if they don't get a better quality opponent. So it was probably a saavy move to play an opponent like Butler in this game since the event itself will be the draw but I'd expect that if they do this again we'll see a higher profile opponent.

I think that looks a little better. xthumbsupx

BTW, the opponent has no relevance. This is about recruiting and alum.

Exactly right.

2 days until Bison football!

Yep. It was originally supposed to be a guarantee game in Fargo. The Twins approached NDSU about doing this. Exactly this. It still blows my mind why some small minded Bison fans keep bitching about watching a game in a baseball stadium and:or bitch about playing Butler. This thing is a grand freaking slam for NDSU. It is a big deal for the future of the program.

If this is a great success I wonder if they could squeak a game into US Bank in 2024? That would be a much larger undertaking and require +50% more fans plus juggling around Vikings games

So not liking FB in a baseball stadium and not liking Butler as an opponent is small minded even though one can still see the big picture of why this game was scheduled???? Yeah ok xrolleyesx

I think the only FBS games that would pay more than NDSU is getting is Alabama type teams that pay 1.5 million or more to FBS body bag teams.

Some thoughts:

Nice 1st game from Trey Lance at QB. Kid looked off defenders and is quick. Better defenses will give him a good test but this game was a good start.
NDSU's middle LB looks slow.
Defense looks a little out of sorts sometimes but teams improve the most between games 1 and 2.
Kickoffs were not good. Kicker was hurt but only hitting the 5-10 yard line is not good.
Great atmosphere in the downtown and at the game. Hats off to the Twins and the NDSU AD for getting this game.
Ty Brooks is not an every down back and will get hurt doing this. RB by committee is a good thing this year.
TEs are a huge strength this year.
On to UND. Crush them.

He looked good and you may well be right, he's a beast. I was really impressed with Dmitri Williams.

Great weekend, Minnesota State Fair Friday, saw a few Bison fans. Game downtown was great. How often do you go to a sporting even today and get free programs. Nice perk. Kolpack was right though, when he said the game was like Apollo Creed vs him. Butler was not on the same level. We'll have a better idea after the Fighting Hawks game.

I would need a really good opponent and the seat that I had.
