They did this with all the other supposed championship incarnations. Keep stretching it out. Its going to take some team getting hosed again before the politicos get involved which will cause them to produce another study etc etc etc. Then do some no non important tweek to mollify the lesser teams so they think they have a chance of getting in.

If they want to change the playoff system I’d just do the four team playoffs after bowl season. Play the bowls, and pick the teams afterwards. It keeps the prestige of the big bowl games while ensuring a bit more fair selection process.

I think that they should also address fan conduct. Someone standing a few feet away from players leaving the field while swearing at them and giving them the finger. Security to protect players needs to be addressed, especially when fans rush the field.

Never met the guy and he's never coached a team I've closely followed or coached against a team I've closely followed but this news was a gut punch. Mike Leach is the most entertaining character in college football - look up his rants on weddings, Halloween candy, and/or Pac-12 mascot battle royale on YouTube if you don't believe me. Even if he's not able to coach anymore he would be an incredibly entertaining analyst... but it sounds like he's got quite a battle to even get to that point. Prayers for a quick and full recovery - the sports world (and world in general) needs more Mike Leaches so I really hope we don't get the one we have taken away.

If the likely merger of Pac-"12" with MWC happens, that will NOT be a "power conference" any more than the AAC is a "power conference" (and the AAC has been poached to the point where their argument that they should be considered the 6th such conference is less relevant than ever).

While the Big 12 is getting all the back pats they're still not the football league that the ACC is. They lost their two programs most capable of winning a national championship and replaced them with a bunch of teams that might sniff the top 5 once in a generation. The ACC still has Clemson, Florida St, and Miami who are much more capable than any Big 12 program is of regulary contending for a national title. It's the P2 with the ACC clearly 3rd and the Big 12 a distant 4th. No one after that matter anymore in the scope of big boy college football.
In men's basketball, on the other hand, the Big 12 is going to be a behemoth.

Miami hasn't been relevant in 20 years.
Baylor and Oklahom State are only a season removed from top 10 seasons. TCU was just in the CFP. And Utah has been top 15 three of the past four seasons. The ACC isn't really as heads and shoulders about the B12 as I think you give them credit for.

The ACC never ever ever has depth and part of the reason why Clemson was able to make the playoffs and win a couple national championships wasn't just because of them being good, but because playing in the ACC, they could always promise recruits they'd win, and win by a lot (this is basically what NDSU can do too).
I can grant that Clemson and FSU knock on the door for national championships frequently, but I think Baylor, BYU, UCF, Cincy, Houston, TCU, Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Utah have all either played at a high level at different points in the last 15 years or so, or are pouring in the $$$ to do so. It's not on the level of FSU/Clemson, but I'd put them at higher than at least 10 ACC teams - the only other ones I feel may be worthy of the conversation are Louisville and Miami, but even then I wouldn't put their recent success comparable to TCU, Cincy, UCF, Baylor, and Houston.
As a biased South Carolina fan that hates Clemson, it's always been obvious that the ACC has been kind of like Kennesaw State in the Big South: one very good team, among very mediocre ones. In some ways, ACC schools thrive on the reputation of former Big East Schools for things they did in the Big East, not the ACC (looking at Miami, Pitt, Virginia Tech, and maybe Syracuse). If my team were playing in a conference that I'd want to prepare me to make a run at the playoff, I'd choose the Big 12; If I wanted one where I can be assured 10 wins and be a shoo-in for the playoffs, it's the ACC. In some ways I think the couple years Clemson won a national title were an aberration due to stellar recruiting, because seeing how they got worked by Tennessee, it seems like the ACC is back to it's 2014 self.

The last 5 minutes of that game was epic. That TD that MN scored on was one of the worst thrown passes I have seen for a while. Guy make a circus catch on a 4th down play and then, lo and behold, the Huskers turn the ball over again, roll over on D and the rest is history. I told the wife when Nebraska had the lead that she needed to watch and see how they would hand this game over to the Gophers. Of course they didn’t disappoint.

No clue - have the game on mute so not sure if they explained. Really thought CSU had to go for 2 after they scored in the first OT.... but now I'm thinking I just want to see 27 OTs. Too bad the 2 point play shootout is coming if there's a 3rd OT.

In case anyone cares, Northwestern who is now led by David Braun, who was NDSUs DC last season, came back from a 31-10 4th quarter deficit against Minnesota to win 37-34 in OT. Could see Braun getting the job permanently if he wins another game or two. As for Minnesota, plenty of Gopher fans sick of Fleck now.

Notre Dame only puts 10 players on the field for their final 2 defensive plays in their last second loss to Ohio St. They called their final timeout before the first of those 2 plays and there was 37 seconds of real time in between those 2 plays. That is some all-time coaching ineptitude.

I’ll take the FCS playoff committee over the CFP committee any day of the week. The CFP proved they’re beholden to ESPN and who they want, the FCS is a hell lot more fair. Do some teams get snubbed like UC-Davis this year? Yeah, but a 7-4 team getting snubbed is no where as bad as a 13-0 P5 champion getting snubbed in favor of a 12-1 SEC team, solely because ESPN and the SEC will be under contract next year.
The SEC is overrated as hell this year and Michigan will thrash Alabama.

Here we go … Plaintiff’s Attorney’s always looking to find a way into deep pockets. FUBeAR knew these Collectives, their Operators, and, more interestingly, their Wealthy Donors were setting themselves up for a pile of lawsuits as he wrote this on the FU Board on 3/27:
“It will be interesting to see what happens when enterprising plaintiffs’ attorneys…go after wealthy donors who have contributed to collectives, the collectives themselves, and/or the operators of collectives as additionally named responsible parties for participating in structuring the circumstances that, ultimately, led to their clients’ damages.”
The context in this case (above) was damages related to tragic injuries & deaths caused by NIL-rich young athletes driving highly powered sports cars costing in excess of $100k, but breach of contract (below) was always a risk for these cats. We’ll see soon that’s gonna go the other way also. Schools, Collectives, and/or Donors are gonna be suing these athletes. They have plaintiff’s attorneys also. Ain’t college sports rewarding…

Georgia QB Jaden Rashada sues Florida coach Billy Napier, among others, over botched $13.85M NIL deal
Also named in the bombshell suit are a former Gators football staffer as well as a prominent booster
"Jaden's miserable experience reveals, in stark and dramatic detail, what can happen to young student-athletes when wealthy, win-at-all-cost alumni insert themselves into college football's recruiting process," the lawsuit says.
So very ironic.
It’s clear that the solution to prevent these young student-athletes from having such miserable experiences is to remove all alumni (and other donors) from contributing their wealth into college football recruiting processes.

Article says they wanna take the “Big” outta the name and sell the rights for their 16 Team Conference to be called, for example, the “Oscar Mayer Weiner 12” … when there are 16 Teams.
If you were paying $XXX million to slap your name on something, wouldn’t you want it to be accurate…and bigger.
In this case, you would want your Weiner to be “16” instead of “12,” wouldn’t you? In fact, you might want to keep the word “Big” as you advertise your Weiner, right?
“BIG Weiner 16” > “Weiner 12” … right?

After Georgia and Georgia Tech went to 8 OTs last night I'm seeing a lot of chatter on social media complaining about college OT rules forcing teams to go to a 2pt shootout starting in the 3rd OT. I like it - I thought that game was incredible drama for about a half hour straight as the game hung in the balance on every play. It got a little muddled up by the fact that the teams combined to go only 3-12 on 2pt conversions but it was still one of the best games I've ever watched. I couldn't even imagine the stress of being a fan of one of those teams and going through that though
I greatly prefer the college OT rules to the NFL though. What are your thoughts? Do you like the 2pt shootouts starting in the 3rd OT or no? Do you prefer the NFL OT model to college or no?

The NFL OT method is atrocious but I preferred the old CFB method. After the 2nd OT teams had to go for two if they scored a TD. Preferred that over alternating two point tries. The A&M-LSU 7OT game in 2018 was much more impressive than the UGA-GT game or the Illinois-PSU game from a few years back because of it.
