I'll give Klieman the benefit of the doubt in that regard until he proves otherwise. Offering a kid who had an NDSU offer but was committed to Nebraska isn't damaging whatsoever to NDSU's recruiting efforts IMO.

Not taking anything away from Chris because he is a hell of a coach and I truly believe he deserves the chance he's earned it. Here's the "But" part of my comment though. I think any other FCS coach hypothetically with the same win loss record would never get a sniff even with that record without the #2 part in your comment. Had it not been for Gene Taylor and his previous knowledge/experience with Chris this would never have happened. Regardless I'm happy for Chris and sad to see him go but in the end any FCS coach of any school with that kind of success is not staying at that school they will move on to bigger challenges. Wouldn't want a coach who didn't want the challenge but then again without that desire I don't think any coach can get that kind of success.

On a side not here is a really interesting thread over on one of the KState forums where they are discussing the "Retirement" of Snyder and if it was something other than "retirement". I didn't know it but they (KState) paid Snyder 3 million after he retired because according to Taylor he deserved it for all he'd done for the university. Fans on that board are calling BS on that. Interesting thread and theory.

here's a relevant question. Im wondering how long the pipeline to FBS will flow for the NDSU coaches. If the new coach wins a NC in the first couple years but doesnt win say 3 in 5 years does he get a look at a job that would be considered a move up? I mean a good paying MAC job would pay more but you could get stuck in a dump there. Also, someone mentioned somewhere that Grant Olson's name might be one that could come back to NDSU. I would have no hard feelings if he did, However, would you take that job or would you gamble on where Mallory ends up. Mallory has so many connections at this point from his father and brothers. Some guys have said that they could see Indiana dumping Allen for him. I guess its all a calculated risk.

I think it would likely open more eyes and doors at the FBS level to hiring coaches from the FCS. But there will still be the issue of the jump up in the minds of most. Heck look at even the comments of the FCS fans questioning if a coach from the FCS can be successful in the FBS .
On another note I think it's pretty comical that fans want to use history or the lack of it against FCS coaches when talking about examples of FCS coaches having success with moving to the FBS P5 ranks as head coaches. Better question is how many coaches from either the G5 ranks or even P5 assistants that have moved up have flopped? I think there has been a number of FCS coaches in the past had they been given the chance would be successful as P5 head coaches but we'll never know because they aren't given the chance.
