Any of the southern boys on here going to watch any of this race. Starts Tuesday and could be Armstrongs last yr in cycling. He is to give a news conference today announcing whether he will return or not. Wish I lived closer.

I plan on being there. Several of the riders were in Calhoun County (home of Jacksonville State) this weekend for a crit and the Cheaha Challenge (103 mile ride). My son and I rode the Cheaha Challenge but not the 103 route. So I plan to carry him over for the Rome races and Bald Mountain.
I've seen Armstrong race before against Miquel Indurain which was very exciting.

Discovery doesn't have their best team going in this one, as some of the big names are over in Europe still. Good to see Lance working with some of the younger guys though as Discovery looks for some new riders to take the place of Ekimov, who I assume is retiring after this year too, and Armstrong.

The mountain stages are just about 45 minutes from downtown Chattanooga...for the third straight year, I and some friends, will be camping out near the summitt at Cohutta...we stay up all night, drink too much, paint the road with our favorite riders names...just like the TdF without the airfare (and French people ;) )
Sad that this might be the last time to see Lance live, I raced against him once when we were both teenagers (back when he was a triathlete)...I kinda hope that even if he quits doing the TdF, he might still come back and do one more TdGa.
So are there some cycling fans on here? I do a daily TdF article during the race...add in pics, do history of each stage, teach some strategy, etc...if there are some people on here with an interest, I would be happy to copy the reports on here too.

Count me as a fan. I raced against Malcolm Elliott one time and he only beat me by about 3 hours in a 100 miles. The bad part was he started about 30 minutes after everyone else and still won the race. The good part was he either won a stage in the Tour or had top finish that year.
