I used to show a film called Dear America:Letters Home From Vietnam in my history classes. They incorporated the songs from that period into it. One of the best was at Christmas Eve and the soldiers/marines were singing Silent Night. It was actually haunting because they knew they were far from home during the holidays- what they had was each other.

I hope everybody has had a great Thanksgiving Day! Raise a glass to those deployed to the far-flung reaches of our globe defending the liberties laid out in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution -- and their families left behind.

Been there, done that and understand the hardship -- being retired doesn't lessen the feelings of gratitude toward those who continue to serve.
