I would think so. All their networks are usually available on ESPN3 (the free stuff), so you probably don't need ESPN+ as long as you can get that stuff.

I remember last year I tried the ESPN 3 route and I was locked out because ESPNU wasn't in my TV package.

Prediction: Wofford will play Elon, winner going to JMU.

Furman will play Jacksonville, winner will play Kennesaw state.

ETSU will probably have SEMO

unseeded CAA teams will draw the NEC and Colgate

I checked. I will be able to watch since I get both ESPN and ESPNU. I know that the nation would not be able to survive if they couldn't watch endless NFL pregame chatter.

I'm driving home last night trying to get a college game or at least the scores. Some guy is droning on and on about fantasy football. My wildest dreams have nothing to do with fantasy football.

Only reason I have access to cable is because I'm at home at my parents for the week. I don't have and don't plan to ever have a cable subscription. Too many good streaming options with live sports packages to justify cable anymore IMO.

Ice skating is gateway viewing. “The Bachelor” & “Dancing with the Stars” won’t be too far down the track.

Anyone without ESPNU who wants to watch, I've just discovered Sling TV offers a 7 day free trial for new customers, just press the blue "Free trial" button on the homepage, select the basic channel package when prompted, add the "sports pack" (ESPNU will be listed in the pack's description), and finish out the payment info. They charge you after the trial is up so be sure to cancel after the show.

If ESPN+ said it was 100ish for an entire year for ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN3/ESPNU/ESPN Classic/ESPNEWS/SECNetwork/LonghornNetwork/ACCNetwork/ESPN Megagame (one where there is 10 feeds for the game) they could crush it but I doubt they ever do that. I'd double what I am paying just so I could get everything at once.

well then it seems pointless to complain about not being able to watch something that is on cable only, if you refuse to get a cable subscription.

Not that I've ever really seen that much value in these "selection shows", especially the FCS selection show.
You can see the bracket posted within minutes, and the commentary is generally nothing informative in the slightest.

ESPNU is the logical location for ESPN to show this game. ESPNU is geared around college sports, specifically college sports that don't have enough general appeal to be shown on a more major network (but enough appeal to warrant being put on an actual channel rather than just a web stream).

JSUSoutherner

On the one hand it does make sense. Gotta fill programming, and live sports can always run long.

Of course, it always reminds me of a case about 10 years ago, when they missed the entire first period of an NCAA Tournament game (hockey) because a regular season game (lacrosse) went to several overtimes. What started first always gets priority, even when it leads to goofy stuff like that

JMU's Houston was a total dink in the ESPN interview. He dissed both Maine and Colgate because they beat an "injured" UNH while JMU lost to a "healthy" UNH. Gimme a break!xrolleyesx Was UNH "injured" again yesterday when they lost to URI? JMU didn't get it done. Maine was the sole champ on the CAA with a 7-1 record. Colgate was dominant with their schedule at 10-1 with the lone close loss to an FBS. Screw you Houston!

Maine won the CAA and deserved the higher seed over JMU. The real issue IMO is that JMU deserved a top 8 seed over some of the other team.

W&M played both teams and no question that JMU was better at that time.

Seems a bit imbalanced to have 3 Big Sky teams as top 8 seeds just because they tied for conference champs. No real issue for JMU to prove themselves against Delaware at home then Colgate on the road but not sure they should have to face NDSU as a quarterfinal game- they are ranked in the polls at #6 in FCS stats and #7here.

Top/Left bracket teams had 11 wins in the playoffs last year (and, with one exception, they got bumped out by teams on their side of the bracket.)

The bottom/right teams had 3 wins in the playoffs last year. San Diego (1), UNI (1) and Weber State (1) - and all three of those teams got bumped out by teams in the Top/Left side of the bracket.

It's set up so NDSU might have to go through the only two teams to beat them in the last two seasons (SDSU and JMU).

I guess the only surprise is that UNI isn't playing Montana State.

There are at-large teams on the top/right of the bracket that would be favored by Vegas against any of the seeds on the left/bottom side.

well then it seems pointless to complain about not being able to watch something that is on cable only, if you refuse to get a cable subscription.

Not that I've ever really seen that much value in these "selection shows", especially the FCS selection show.
You can see the bracket posted within minutes, and the commentary is generally nothing informative in the slightest.

ESPNU is the logical location for ESPN to show this game. ESPNU is geared around college sports, specifically college sports that don't have enough general appeal to be shown on a more major network (but enough appeal to warrant being put on an actual channel rather than just a web stream).ESPNU is on PlayStation Vue so you don't need cable.

I dont think we could have beat them at that point in the season, but during the game we lost a LB and at least 1 DL and they literally ran it down our throat for 2 drives and we didnt recover. Im not sure what the outcome would have been 3 or 4 weeks later.

I would've said Indiana State should be in over Elon, personally. I'm guessing they threw Elon a bone with only 6 wins because of the cancelled hurricane game, but there's no guarantee they would've beaten W&M.

Delaware, Stony Brook, and Towson are hard to separate due to each of them having beaten one of the others and lost to one of the others while all having the same in-conference and overall record, you couldn't exclude one without screams of bias.

And of course, you take out the finalists from last year out of the equation, and the numbers even up.

This year's Colgate is very good, but if they get JMU in Round 2, they will get a very different team and coaching staff than they saw in 2015.

They got a JMU team with a coaching staff that didn't give 2 $#itz about defense and played it with a 2nd string quarterback (that guy eventually turned out to be pretty good -- Bryan Schor) and a fractured locker room where the offense blamed the defense for all the problems, but all Withers cared about was getting his Slum Belt Texas State gig at that point.

Delaware will be no picnic; tough row to hoe for the Dukes to get back to Frisco.

I'm not too surprised Furman was left out. I would have had them in, but figured they were a solid bubble team (at which point it's crossing fingers).

I am stunned, though, that they didn't make it to the first 3 out. Suggests they weren't really that close to being considered.Right...

Furman was the 11th At-large Team IN according to AGS Poll voters and no better than the 18th Team available for an At-large bid according to the Selection Committee. That’s a HUGE disparity.

One of these 2 groups has to be completely clueless.

Which one do y’all think is the clueless group?

It has to be one or the other.

Am I the only one who is radically meh about the playoffs this year?

I don't expect to win a national title. We could go on a run or get bounced in the first round. I don't know what to expect from any team other than NDSU. I have no expectations so nothing can fail to meet them, so I'm actually looking forward to this one.

I know the general "consensus" is that the top side is the strong side but I think it will be the boring side. Like you said, NDSU is going to win it anyway and knowing that just takes the excitement out of it for me. The bottom half could be very interesting with the 3 BSC teams and UNI if they decide to play football.

Like I was telling BF02 and IBY earlier, I think it's the "strong side" is just because NDSU is over there. It makes it tough for everyone on that side, sure, trade out NDSU for any of the seeds on this side and you still have 7 conference champions on this side of the bracket.

I do concede that NDSU weighs heavy but outside of them I think the bracket is really balanced.

The top half has the two finalist from last year and 3 of the semifinal teams. Sure, this is a new year but three seeded Big Sky teams on one side? The Big Sky hasn't had a lot of success in the playoffs recently.

I believe Trevor Knoght, UNH QB, was injured early in the season but came back later.

JMU forgets that the reason they lost to UNH is because their QB's stink. IIRC JMU threw 2 pick 6's against UNH.

Did Trevor Knight play when UNH lost to URI last weekend?

Is this the new normal now?....do we all get to * asterisk every win and loss based on injuries. Maine was without their starting QB Chris Ferguson for 2nd half of Central Michigan, all of Yale game, and 2nd half of Elon game. Therefore if JMU's loss to UNH was a quality loss....then Maine's loss to Yale was a quality loss.

In an effort to show that the 14-6 score in Ogden wasn't fluky, I looked up Weber's FCS opponents and their average yards per game versus yards gained against Weber.

Weber held EVERY FCS team they faced under their year average in yards. Some significantly, others by 20 yards or so. Most they gave up was 384 to SUU, a game that was never closer than two scores in the second half and was still 53 yards under SUU's average.

EWU wasn't even the team that was farthest off their year average. Sac averaged 441.8 over the course of the year and got 191 against Weber.

Whole totals:

CP - 352.1 - 321
SD - 411.2 - 238

Its just not an apples to apples comparison. Would say the same thing if we crushed Yale and you lost to them with your 2nd string QB. It was a BS response by the committee to say that was the reason for Colgate & Maine seeded and JMU not. They saw they had a common opponent and checked the scores, not the circumstances of the game. Could have said 'AQ for CAA' & 'Undefeated in FCS' and that would be factual and no way JMU could deny that.

Do you have a link or a list of the last ones in and first ones out?

I would've said Indiana State should be in over Elon, personally. I'm guessing they threw Elon a bone with only 6 wins because of the cancelled hurricane game, but there's no guarantee they would've beaten W&M.

Delaware, Stony Brook, and Towson are hard to separate due to each of them having beaten one of the others and lost to one of the others while all having the same in-conference and overall record, you couldn't exclude one without screams of bias.

Elon is probably the best of the 6-win teams to get in. (It's them or UNI)

I can't speak to a detailed Colgate comparison but fact remains.....Maine finished 7-1 and won the league.....JMU finished 6-2 and didn't win the league. Both had a sucky loss.....Maine beat Elon and JMU didn't. Do you want bonus points for beating 2 cupcakes at home to start the season? JMU and/or Nicholls State deserved a seed imo. I don't think the BSC should have gotten 3 seeds. Maine deserved the seed they got.

Based on past politics my guess is if the CAA got 5 teams in instead of 6 it would have been easier to sell 2 seeds. As it is, there was a "can't have your cake and eat it too" element involved. Likewise with all the 3 BSC seeds being on the same side.

The committee has a history of trying to please the room imo. There's always going to be some level of give and take with the pairings and seedings.

Nicholls is really good. P5 win, league champion, really rolling at the end of the season. They've been knocking on the door in recent years.

Held their MVFC team to similar totals, so I disagree with 1. Actually, South Dakota looked like a bad offensive team to me and they averaged 411 with most of their games in the MVFC, so if Big Sky defenses are bad, so are MVFC defenses.

2. Yes, but generally speaking, Weber is a below average offensive team. They've at least upgraded from terrible to below average. The defense I believe is better than last years and they were one of the top defenses in FCS last year.
