Something like this happened last year w/Winthrop coach Gregg Marshall & College of Charleston. Good news for Creighton though.

Yes, and good news for the Missouri Valley Conference.

Bobby Cremins did it to South Carolina, I believe.

One of our assistant football coaches did it to Texas State this year...he realized what a train wreck their athletic department is and got back to Huntsville in a hurry.

That seems to be a fashionable thing to do. Bobby Cremins did it a few years ago when he agreed to coach his alma mater South Carolina and then changed his mind and went back to Georgia Tech the next day.

To put things in a football context, here is a Jerry Moore story. Moore at one time quit as an assistant coach to Hayden Fry at SMU, to take a job as an offensive assistant at Nebraska under Tom Osborne. Well, Bob Devaney, who was going to step down at Nebraska and become the AD, decided to stay as head coach for one more year before turning things over to Osborne and suddenly, Moore was without a job. Moore had to go back in and BEG Fry for his old job back (which Fry gracious gave him back — something that Fry wasn't prone to do).

I was actually surprised that Dana Altman was being woed by Arkansas. While he has had his share of success at Creighton, Altman wasn't particularly successful at Kansas State (another Big 12 team) before that. I'm not sure Altman was the right guy for the Razorbacks, anyway.

I am so happy.

The MVC needs Altman and now highly paid Lowery of SIU to keep the trend of higher salaries for the MVC.

With the trend of building new arenas, increased success in the NCAA tournament, and higher salaries the MVC is slowly making its way as a basketball power conference that is viewed as such on the national stage.

Today on first and 10, Skip(oh wise skip) stated that if Arkansas knew what was good for them, they would go after Pat Summit to coach them. Which brings up the whole idea, do people think a woman could coach men's basketball?

From the article:

"After I was sure he would allow me to return, I talked to my wife," Altman said. "This is something I'm doing for my family. I wish had would have come to that decision earlier

Dana Altman at the Arkansas pep rally where he was introduced as the new coach was priceless. When they did the pig cheer, you could see from the look on his face that he was feeling out of place. He went home again. He just wasted one day too many figuring out home was where he had spent the last 13 years.
