Let's bash the bigger schools for a while. We had a post on bad I-AA fans but we all know that any I-AA fan is the most pure in the football universe.
Based on what I've seen or heard (not necessarily in person):
Texas Tech
Miami
Idaho
How about your experiences? My Idaho experience is on the other thread.

Minnesota Gophers Football Fans!
Of course the off-campus HHH Metrodome may have something to do with that.

I loved their fans in '95, thought they were the best ever, but I didn't care for them AT ALL in'96. ;)

Rutgers fans are the worst, though I do give them credit for sticking by their teams through DECADES of futility and ineptitude. But maybe they're just as stupid as they look. :D

Miami,Fla. The last time SC played them a friend of mine, who is in a wheelchair, was sitting in the handicapped section of their stadium. About mid way through the second half they thought it had started to rain but somebody was pi$$ing on them from the upper deck.

UGA.
Cuz you have to hear them proclaim themselves as the greatest at the beginning of every year, only to hear the multitude of excuses throughout and following each year.

Iowa Hawkeye fans are pretty horrible. We have no sports teams so most spirit is devoted to the 3 college programs. I can't even describe what it is like to grow up in this state and not be a Hawkeye fan. People are brainwashed from conception and won't hesitate to question you if you aren't 100% Black and Gold. Then they go to bowl games and expect everyone from around the country to worship them because they are there. If there is some sort of scandal, none of their fans understand why its not the lead story on Sportscenter everynight. If sportstalk radio in Des Moines talks anything other than Hawkeye (be it Cyclone or Panther) Hawk fan calls in and starts complaining as to why they never talk about the Hawkeyes. It makes me sick because you can't reason with the typical Hawkeye fan. Its almost like dealing with the Republican party, you're either 100% in or you hate America or the Hawks in this case. I'm glad no one in the rest of the country (except Iowa alumni) gives 2 $h!ts about Iowa, otherwise it would be much worse.

I guess it depends on what you consider worst. Worst to opponents, worst at supporting their team, worst with the law...
That said, nobody tops Terp fans as far as being the biggest idiots in the world. Lose a big game, burn couches in the streets, win a big game, burn couches in the streets. How many other cities send the cops out in riot gear every time the team plays in a semi-big game? A couple years ago at halftime of the MD-UVA game in College Park I had several students jump in my face pointing to my UVA hat yelling 'we own you'... yeah, it was Maryland's second win over UVA in the last 12 years.

UGA. Not only do they have their students that are horrible, but also the 3 community schools with students trying to get into UGA all running their mouths. They are pathetic.

I can imagine that the UGA crowd can be a little rough... as I attended a game there vs South Carolina in '01 and made the mistake wearing a 'gold' UD t-shirt. Wow... did I get a lot of nasty comments accusing me of being a Georgia Tech fan. Apparently those UGA guys only read colors and not letters... :D

I'd be careful admitting wearing a UVA hat. Ralph and the rest of the I-AA police might come and get you. ;)

I have a nephew attending Miami. I have not been to a game but I have heard many stories from my nephew and sister of what Hurricane games are like especially among the students in the upper deck.
Your friend was probably not the victim of intentional disrespect. The Miami student was probably too drunk to make it to the bathroom!! :D :D :D

No worries, Ralph knows I-AA always comes first in my book. I don't even post on I-A or UVA sites anymore and the 89 family goes to more UD games than UVA games (home and away).

I've noticed that for basketball, but not for football. I was at the Peach Bowl when they whipped UT bad and their side wasn't even close to half full. It seemed like their fans were mostly old people.
Of course the next year I went to the Peach Bowl it was UT and Clemson and that was about the wildest crowd I've ever encountered. Not obnoxious, though.

Agree with Let's Go Nova on this - since the mid-1970's, Rutgers fans have become absolute mutants. Not very knowledgeable, no class at all, many drunk, using drugs and fighting in the stands during the game and at tailgates. I am from NJ and periodically attend Rutgers games with some older Rutgers grads of the 40's, 50's and late '60's, and they are downright ashamed of the way the fans behave. Really unfortunate, because Rutgers Stadium has always been a nice place to watch a football game.

I have two to offer:
Ohio State
Five years ago, OSU came to Tucson to play Arizona. The night before the game I walked into a downtown bar and the place was crawling with Buckeyes. That didn't bother me. What bothered me was they were all in my face telling me how the Wildcats were going to get destroyed (I already knew that and they were). I had just moved to AZ less than a year earlier and wore no UofA gear and wasn't a fan (yet), yet, since I wasn't wearing OSU stuff, they had to be jerks. My best friend is an OSU grad, but I've had little patience for their fans ever since.
Arizona State
A co-worker of mine is a Southern Cal grad who has been to many a Trojan road game. I asked him once who he thought were the most classless fans. Without hesitation he told me Arizona St. I learned first hand about that at last year's Arizona-Arizona St. game. It's one thing to root for your team and put down their rival. But along with that, they had to trash every thing about Tucson they could think of. Jack-a$$es

I will have to say that I enjoyed nothing more than watching those toothless jackasses walk back to their RV's after UVA whipped the snot out of West ByGod Virginia in the Tire Bowl a couple of years back. They were even rude to my then 4 year old 89, Jr.
