If Byrd could have led the Lumberjacks to a winning record or the playoffs, he might have gotten the full time gig. SFA has a big opportunity here. I still think Healy from Austin Peay will be the guy.

I have no idea what Murray will do. Right now MSU has an interm President, an interm AD and a football coach without a contract. Coach Stewart has done some good things on very little. Between budget cuts and an former AD who only concentrated on basketball.
But this was his best year at 5-6 has not had a winning record in any year. The inconsitancing is madding. One week they lose to an 0-11 team next week knock of the team that if they win they win the auto bid. Never knew which team would show up.
It has took him four years to learn to be a head coach but that is what happens when an AD goes the easy route and just promotes from with in and does it cheap. Supposly the intern president has been offered a full contract and rumors are they are looking at a football friendly AD.
Guess we will find out what direction they go

Understand. I'm hoping Elder has started learning after 3 years. Took us to our 4th QB to find one that was good. Now, I'm hoping the I understand the new redshirt rule correctly and that since he only played 3 games this year he can get a redshirt and be around for 4 more.

He's a had a very "circular" career that includes a ton of love of for the Commonwealth. This will be his 3rd stop at W&M. He had 3 stops at UVA and two at Richmond. He also covered some bases in D.C. with his quick layovers at Maryland and Howard. If history is a real predictor he won't be at W&M more than 2 or 3 years.

Seen this about Texas State Football Program.
Today’s allegations of ineptitude.
The football program was spending too much money on players lunches, causing the coaches to go to HEB for deli trays to feed the guys out of their pockets.
Athletic department was delinquent on their Coke/Powerade bill, causing the coaches to have to buy Gatorade out of their pockets.
December 2017-January 2018, Associate Athletic Director informs the staff that they are out of recruiting money. Donors had to pay $25k to allow the staff to finish their recruiting class.
Texas State was also delinquent on their lab testing bill for player drug testing. Head Athletic Trainer after three weeks of questioning the results told the staff that the bill hadn’t been paid. Athletic Director told the staff to “forget about it and move on.”
Texas State compliance office told the staff that they could not blueshirt players. Coaches confronted the compliance office about other schools being able to blueshirt recruits. Compliance office finally notified the staff that players could be blueshirted the night before Signing Day.

Why is that?HC means most of the staff is gone besides probably Entz, Roehl, and potentially Messingham and/or Kramer. I hope Kramer never leaves and they have an understudy for him learning the ropes so when it's finally time for him to retire (see what I did there), there is someone who does the exact same thing to the letter that he does. That is why NDSU is so good. They recruit for their needs and let Kramer take the freshmen to the gym and put 20-30lbs of muscle on them to get them ready for STs work and then 2 deep work. Entz would likely be offered the HC role and Roehl has made it clear he wants to be the NDSU HC someday but if Messingham were to leave, he'd likely be promoted to OC, or dare I say it, Polasek might come back and take the OC role again should Messingham leave.
If he leaves as a DC, he probably only takes 1 or 2 guys with him as the HC is going to want HIS guys vs the DCs guys.

More truth than legend behind this. Bohl tried really hard to bring Kramer along, I suspect Kramer will be at NDSU until retirement in 10ish years. Which is really good for us. He does have connections to UNI and App St but I doubt he'd go to either one over NDSU. Money always has a way of talking but it would take a lot.

HC means most of the staff is gone besides probably Entz, Roehl, and potentially Messingham and/or Kramer.

A few things going on related to Clemson.
It's been reported here in the upstate that Brent Venables (ClemsonDC) made some promises to his son Clemson commit Tyler Venables. I believe Venables is the highest paid coordinator in college football, I don't think he leaves.
The other part of this is Joey Batson Clemson's strength coach is pretty entrenched at Clemson. Batson is top five in strength coach salaries, he gets a ton of credit for helping bring the fire, players words not mine. Plus Batson's son was a PWO last season.
It's kinda odd for college football but Clemson now has two Swinney's, one Venerables, and one Batson — I believe they all played together at Daniel High.
Not saying a school couldn't raid Clemson and cause Clemson to raid NDSU but Clemson is a tight family.

Well, NDSU had a damn good understudy of Kramer with Ryan Napoli who is about Roehl's age (early 30's) but he left a couple years ago to lead SEMO's Strength and Conditioning program. Perhaps he would come back. The good problem is that, there is no room for promotion in S&C as long as Kramer is hers.

Seth Littrell or Brent Venables.
Should either of these go, Klieman would look like a good choice to move up. Brent would be better, as most of the coaches would stay at NDSU, but should UNT lose their coach, I'd be nervous about another wholesale at NDSU.

Not an FCS coach this year, but perennial eGriz and AGS punching bag Bob Stitt was hired as former FCS Texas State's new Offensive Coordinator.

I don't see why North Texas would have any interest in Klieman. Neither he nor anybody on his staff has any Texas recruiting connections. If Venables vacates the Clemson DC position then maybe. However, with the powerhouse that Clemson has become I'd wonder if they would set their sights higher than Klieman (or just promote from within).
The dominoes are just starting to fall for these big time jobs. I think if Klieman gets poached it'll be from a spot no one is talking about now because that job isn't open yet.

North Texas is on the border with Oklahoma. They do recruit a lot from the Midwest. I don't have a map, but Denton is about equal distance between Manhattan and Houston.

DeweyUnlike Bohl, I'll be happy for Klieman as he has always been a class act and has yet to have a blemish on his record. When those 3 guys last year acted up, he got rid of them. With Bohl, we knew what we were getting but he did an excellent job laying down the D1 foundation. I know some didn't care the way Bohl left, but I know some that thought what he did was harsh.

As of Jan 1, his buyout drops to about $600k from the roughly $1.2M that it currently sits at.
Unfortunately, our old piece of human scum AD Troy Dannen did not include any offset language. Meaning UNI would be on the hook Pelini style even if/when he takes a job as a position coach or coordinator somewhere.
I've been told the money isn't the issue but this is a really dumb contact our previous AD saddled us with

Number of 5, or more, loss seasons the first 100 years of UNI football: 24
Number of them the last 18: 9
Number in the last 9: 8
Number in the last 7: 7
I split it 2001-09 and 2010-present. It’s now a perfect split of Farley’s career at UNI. 9 years before and 9 years after. And to be honest I’m nice to the second half of Farley’s career and included 2 conference title seasons of 2010 and 2011 to it. If you want to really judge him off of the last half of his decade and look at 2012 on it’s…just…cry into your pillow.
Numbers from 2001-2009
Total: 80-31 (72.1%)
Home: 48-10 (82.8%)
Road: 32-21 (60.4%)
<8 Home: 11-6 (64.7%)
<8 Road: 9-7 (56.3%)
<8 Total: 20-13 (60.6%)
Since the start of 2010
Total: 66-46 (58.9%)
Home: 40-14 (74.1%)
Road: 26-32 (44.8%)
<8 Home: 9-9 (50.0%)
<8 Road: 9-19 (33.3%)
<8 Total: 18-28 (39.1%)
On top of that, the half time scores of our last 5 playoff losses
6-16
7-26
10-7
0-24
10-28
UNI has been at/under .500 after week 6 (so for the first half of the season) in the following season
2018
2017
2015
2014
2012
Ironically, 2013 UNI started 4-0, fell under .500 on the season 5 weeks later and missed the playoffs.
There have been 2 in the last 5 years, plus one early in Farley's tenure. UNI’s previous sub .500 season s 1988. You have to go back to the pre FCS days to find 3 other sub .500 seasons. Think about that – we’ve doubled out number of sub .500 seasons in 7 years than we had the previous 40(ish)
This season we have losses of 28, 25, 21, and 20 and were down 26-0 to Montana at half time and 23-6 to Davis.
This is by far the worst defensive effort that has ever been put forth under Farley, and it’s really not even close. The offense has gotten worse and worse and worse and worse every year - hell, game by game even lately. It’s not even just scheme. It’s a complete lack of discipline at all levels from containment to blown assignments (or calling piss poor assignments), even down to effort. It's a lack of discipline in the coaching staff - and really I mean Farley. It doesn't matter who the assistants are, or how often they turn over. The reality is nothing changes. What does that tell you? Nothing changes and everyone in the program, except one person, has changed in the last 4 years.
I've heard names. I'm not really willing to spread names right now as I can't verify as well as I want too.
I can tell you the names I've heard are very different than Farley.

Urban Meyer stepping down at Ohio St should start a domino effect that could impact the FCS coaching ranks. Matt Campbell, HC at Iowa St, is a strong candidate and could open up an attractive HC (or even DC) job in NDSU HC Chris Klieman's home state of Iowa. I'm sure there are other high profile candidates as well that could trigger multiple coaching moves in the D1 ranks.

Actually Staggs is CRAZY successful against the option. 6-0 Vs Citadel 1-3 Vs Wofford as we are building. So 7-3 I think? Here’s an example - in the v same year Citadel shocked the world and beat FBS SOUTH CAROLINA ... Staggs FCS Charleston Southern defense beat Citadel TWICE. Once holding the same Citadel team that scored 20+ On SEC South Carolina to 6 points. Just like this year Staggs option D held both Wofford and Citadel to their regular season low scores as Furman beat both ! Woff 14. Citadel 17

Was only his second season at Chattanooga, but was very successful at the DIII level with John Carroll.

Elon got a good one. I know Lehigh was probably eyeing him as many were impressed with him when he was here 15 or so years ago with Lembo.

Bryant is apparently hiring Chris Merritt, who is a high school coach in South Florida.
Merritt has little college coaching experience with his best college job being a LB coach at Eastern Illinois some time ago. He also has no ties to Bryant or the Northeast in general. nteresting move.

Good get for Elon; hoping JMU's new coach can tweak the offense so it can succeed against the 3-3-5. It's like a rock fight every time we go up against one...

Honest question: How much would JMU pay an OC? I would guess that Folmar has 3 hot options on the table, HC at LU, OC at JMU (which he may have already turned down), and stay OC at Elon.

This past year the DC made 165K (+25K from '17) and the OC made 155K (+15K from '17). Both were in their 3rd year this season and the DC was the FootballScoop FCS Coordinator of the Year in '17.
Not sure what they started at in the '16 season.

Maine (FCS) coach Joe Harasymiak is leaving to accept a position on the Minnesota staff, Pete Thamel (https://twitter.com/PeteThamel/status/1075776694882103296) tweets. Harasymiak led the program to the best season in school history this past year and an appearance in the FCS semifinals.

Row-The-Boat U will continue to play second fiddle to NDSU as long as they shoot for that #SouthernSpeed and rah-rah mentality. Joe will be a solid addition, but I can't see them being more than a .500 ball club if they continue to play spread football.

UCA loses two coaches and promotes two from within. Has one position open and has already interviewed for it.
Defensive coordinator Max Thurmond is leaving to become linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at FBS UNC Charlotte. Mark Sheridan, UCA's outside linebackers/bandits coach this past year, is going back to his alma mater Albion College as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

How true are the Charlie Grass rumors headed to South Florida as the offensive coordinator?

Well, the McNeese fans who were wanting a fresh start and to get away from the former McNeese way are getting what they wished for. The Sterling Gilbert coaching staff has been announced and most all of them have a Art Briles / Dino Babers connection. A lot of us are wondering how we are paying some of these guys.

Interesting hire. Other than his son transferring (assuming he has eligibility left), what else can we expect from this star player turned coach?
