Western Carolina at East Tennessee State

Mr. C is taking the opportunity to check out the new digs (William B. Greene Jr. Stadium) at East Tennessee State today in a Southern Conference game. Interesting to see the Bucs playing outdoors on campus in the shadow of the infamous Mini-Dome.

The Bucs strike early with a 12-play, 75-yard drive to score after 6:31 in the first period. Quay Holmes scored on a 1-yard run, becoming the third player with 10 rushing TDs in a season for ETSU, joining George Search and Brandon Walker (who did it three times in his star-studded career.

The Bucs botched the snap on the PAT to leave the score at 6-0 after the opening drive.

Western Carolina missed a wide-open receiver behind the secondary and eventually had to punt. Big missed opportunity.

WCU had ETSU bottled up inside the 10, but a defensive breakdown on third down let the Bucs off the hook for a first down and ETSU turned it into three points with a 28-yard field goal to make it 9-0 on the first play of the second quarter after another bad snap.

QB Tyree Adams converts a fourth down and then scored on a six-yard burst a play later to get WCU on the board. 7 plays, 72 yards, 3:23 on the drive. Adams set things up with a 48-yard scamper earlier in the drive. 9-7 ETSU with 11:24 left in the first half.

26-yard run by Quay Holmes of ETSU and the Bucs are deep in WCU territory again.

A messed up snap count, a dropped pass in the end zone and a tunnel screen that should have been a bigger play than it was and ETS has to settle for another field goal from 27 yards out. 10 plays, 60 yards and 5:14 on the drive as the Bucs go ahead 12-7 midway through the second quarter.

WCU quickly answers back with a nice pitch and catch for the TD. 9-play, 75-yard drive of 3:32. And a 12-yard TD pass from Tyrie Adams to Tyran Reynolds. 13-12 Catamounts with 2:31 left in the half after a screen pass for two fails.

Halftime from East Tennessee State and the Western Carolina Catamounts lead the Bucs 13-12.
