With the April draft coming up I thought it would be interesting to see some posts on the highest draftee in the history of your school.
Delaware's is Rich Gannon who was drafted in the 4th round in the 1987 draft (98th overall). That could be broken this year with TE Ben Patrick. Some analysts project Ben to go in the 3rd round as the 3rd best tight end available.

Both Dave Meggett('88) and Tony Vinson('93) were drafted in the 5th rounds. Meggett by the Giants and Vinson by the Chargers. Not sure about Sean Landeta though. He was in the USFL for a year or two before his 21 year NFL career began.

He single handedly pummelled Towson State in 1989! There was a picture of him carrying 4 Towson players in Sports Illustrated the following week.
I was redshirted that year and got wasted listening to the game on the radio.

In the actual NFL draft, Charles Haley was the 96 pick (4th round, then, late 3rd round now). Curtis Keaton was drafted with the 97th pick in 2000.

Well according to the above mentioned site... New Hampshire's highest draft pick was Steve Doig who was drafted in 1982 in the third round (#69 overall) by Detroit. Of course there may have been someone else before 1982, but I don't know.
As this was before I was even born... do any other Wildcat fans remember him or have any information on him... Thanks!

They didn't - Payton was drafted in 1975.
1975 draft had Payton and Brazile from JSU, Gary Johnson from Grambling @ #8, and Lynn Boden from South Dakota State at #13.
Hollywood Henderson from Langston was picked @ #18.
The 1974 draft, beside Jones, had another Tiger, Waymond Bryant picked #4 overall. Other current FCS teams with 1st rounders that year include Barty Smith (Richmond) @12, Henry Lawrence (FAMU) @ 19, Bill Kollar (Montana State) @ 23, and Don Reese (Jackson State) @ 26.

The secret was out long before '74 on HBCU's.
That year the NFL said FUGG it and went for the best players period at all these HBCU's.xnodx
Before they were worried about drafting too many from THOSE PLACES and not enough from the Michigans, Notre Dames, etc of the world.

I've always noticed on draft day the HBCU's seem to get the most 1-AA draftees selected as well as the highest round pics for 1-AA. The link someone previously provided proves that. There are a lot more kids drafted from the HBCU's schools overall. Seems like an Oxymoron considering the historic playoff performances. Of course that only applies to those that participate in the playoffs. Hampton is the most recent example, I believe they had four kids at this years combine but lost in the 1st round? No pun intended just an observation.

I think in general HBCU's have an abundance of talented skilled players and not as many linemen especially offensive linemen. For the most part, HBCU football is a finese game with alot of passing and that has hurt a lot of teams in the playoffs when the style of play is different. With that being said, that wide open attack has help put a lot of DB and WR in the NFL. IMO.
