You must have gotten this off the SHSU board, this is not the release off the official SLC web site.
It looks like the anal nerds on the SHSU web site have struck again. :) :bang:
I don't believe Cox is available in Texas, is it ?

Nope, not from the SH board, but from the SH Athletic website.

Cox is not available in Texas, but all others are - depending on what provider you have, of course.

Okay, Sam games against TxSt-SM and NWSt would be great for television. Why are they not on TV?
Sam vs NW State botched because Sam can not move a HC game outside of 2 PM start on Saturday. Sam would rather game against SFA be televised, so Sam/NWSt chosen as HC.
Sam vs Bobcats of TxSt-SM was botched because Bobcats were unwilling to move the game, which is understandable. Senior Day on a Thursday night? No chance.

Cox cable is availiable in Texas so I would think Cox sports would be. Are they not the same company?

Cox Sports is a New Orleans-based channel that is carried on Cox Cable systems in different places across Texas. Irs not one of the primary cable providers in the state but it does do business in Texas. They tend to run a lot of games involving Louisiana teams where the channel is carried most places.

I'm surprised Cox isn't showing Southern at McNeese but I like it. That Northwestern State at Louisiana Monroe game gives me something to get fired up about watching to open the football season.
I hope Northwestern State blows their doors off.

John, what's the drive time from New Orleans to Lake Charles, LA?
I just got a job in New Orleans at a small NAIA school and was hoping to make some Bearkat games in baseball, basketball and football this coming year. I know Hammond and Thibodaux are within a little over an hour, if not less. What's New Orleans to Lake Charles like?

About four hours. But make sure you allow extra time because it's not unusual to have accidents on the Atchafalaya Basin bridge and if you do you're stuck for a while or have to take a detour up to US 190. Take a Louisiana highway map in case you have to do that.
I guess it's because that bridge has hardly any shoulder area and it's about 17 miles long.

In other words, you've been closer in Huntsville. You always see all those casino buses headed to Lake Charles. You don't think those geezers would ride a bus that long so you know it can't be far.

I've been stuck on there before. When we went from Huntsville to Tampa for the NCAA tournament, there was a fatality and that was no fun waiting on that bridge...

You can get from New Orleans to Lake Charles in less than 4 hours easily, depending on traffic and what time of day you travel. Then again, if you hit congestion and there's an accident over one of the bridges, you'd better hope you packed lunch!!!

I was told I could do the Houston to New Orleans drive in about 4.5 hours. It's 310 miles, so if I go 60 mi an hour, that's about five hours and of course, the speed limits are 65 to 70, so it seems like 4.5 hours is possible. And from Houston to Lake Charles is two hours. You guys make it seem like it's longer.

Houston to Lake Charles is about 2.5 hrs. - but, you might have to allow 30 min. in Houston to get out of the city limits. Lake Charles to Baton Rouge is 2 hrs.and add another 30 min. to get to New Orleans.....all of that is with a fast car and no stopping!

I regularly make the drive from Hammond, La. to Houston and I can usually do it in 4 to 4 1/2 hours if traffic flow is relatively normal and I don't stop much. You need to add another 30 minutes minimum to get to New Orleans. Hammond is 40 miles east of Baton Rouge on I-12, New Orleans is 75 miles or so southeast of Baton Rouge on I-10.

The drive from Houston to Lake Charles took Mrs. bfp and I about 3 hours. Of course, it took 45 minutes to get out of Houston.
Houston to New Orleans is about a six hour drive no matter how you slice it.
My personal record for driving is Houston, Tx to Orlando, FL in 12.5 hours. Now that is flying. :)

You need to get a sharper knife because I've sliced it quicker than six hours MANY times. It can easily take that long or longer if you get caught in traffic, or behind an accident, or you stop several times, but one can easily make it in less than six hours.
And considering it takes me right at 10 hours to drive from Hammond to Orlando, getting after it pretty good, I'm surprised you weren't hauled off to jail! :) :) :)

Not related at all but I did Dallas to the Wyoming border in 14hrs flat. That includes to stops for tickets I got...
I also did Austin to LA, CA in 17.5... was pulled over on the way back after doing it in 19hrs on the return and we got a ticket for no front license plate!

How small of an NAIA school? Please say Loyola. Other than that (maybe Xavier) ... Ouch! :splat:

I was born and raised in Lake Charles then lived in Jefferson Parish while working in downtown New Orleans for a couple of years 1983 - 1985. I made the trip a lot. On average I think about 4 hours is a pretty good thing to plan on if you don't want to risk a speeding ticket. Like the SLU guy says it depends on traffic, etc.
I also drive to Lake Charles a lot from Prairiveille where I live...which is just on the New Orleans side of Baton Rouge. Experience tells me it's going to be about 2 1/2 hours.

John must have not got the memo that said the speed limit is now 70mph.
You can make it to Cowboy Stadium from the Superdome in 3 hours and 15 minutes. And that's with 2 bladder breaks in route.

John, it may be time to upgrade that Model T now..
Unless there is a major accident on I-10, i can easily get to baton rouge from lake charles in 2 hours and then from B.R to N.O in 30-40 minutes, an hour max. Only if you get caught in N.O or B.R. rush hour should it slow you down by 30 minutes too.

I agree you can make it from Lake Charles to New Orleans in considerably less than 4 hours, but if you're saying you can make it from Baton Rouge to New Orleans in 30 to 40 minutes, you might wanna consider NASCAR!!! I can buy BR to Kenner in 30 to 40 minutes but downtown New Orleans?
