As before feel free to just pick winners, just pick against the spread, or pick both ways but just make sure to differentiate if you pick both ways. If you didn't see the standings after week 3 you can find them here: http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?212214-2018-MVFC-Pick-em-Week-3&p=2674092&viewfull=1#post2674092

And just for anyone interested I wanted to post each team's record against the spread so far this year. I think it's interesting to see who's outperforming vs underperforming based on the point spreads (how bout dem Trees?!?!):

MVFC bye week. Most of the conference follows the same schedule...3 OOC games, bye week, 8 MVFC games, then the playoffs (or if you're NDSU, another bye week then playoffs). Sometimes scheduling doesn't quite work out for everyone's bye weeks to line up, but most do.

Illinois State @ Colorado State (-5.5).. 50/50 game if we play the elevation smart. NAU debacle (6,900 feet) a year ago should help us prepare better for CSU (5,000 feet)

Hampton @ Northern Iowa (-35.5)

Spread

Delaware @ North Dakota State (-24.5) .. got to believe NDSU will want to make statement against Colonial team, though JMU does not play Delaware this year. Delaware not clicking much yet.

Illinois State @ Colorado State (-5.5) .. picked my ISUr to win, so of course they cover.

Hampton @ Northern Iowa (-35.5) .. common opponent from a year was Monmouth .. that UNI team smoked them by 39, Hampton lost by 7. But Hampton was not a doormat last year at 6-5. UNI just not showing much yet like I had expected.

Delaware @ North Dakota State (-24.5) - Low possession game as both teams try to control the ball, the NDSU offense not clicking on all cylinders yet, and a tough Delaware defense all lead to the Hens covering.

Illinois State @ Colorado State (-5.5) - Kind of a dart throw here since the Redbirds haven't been tested yet but I do not think CSU is very good at all.

Hampton @ Northern Iowa (-35.5) - It's the home opener for the Panthers and I think they take out their early season frustrations and beat up on an overmatched team.

In 2017, CSU was 7-5 reg season and lost to Marshal in Bowl Game. They lost to Alabama 41-23 .. which was the 3rd most points anyone scored on Alabama last year. So they finished 7-6 against the 99th ranked FBS SOS .. this gave them a Massey ranking off #86 and Massey Composite rank of #80. With a 1-3 start this year, only win over Arkansas, they look to be weaker this year so far. So if we do beat them .. yes, I'll feel good about winning on road against a Power 5 FBS team.

But if we win by less than TD and catch a few breaks .. I will NOT come on here claiming to be top 3 much less the best FCS team just because we beat a weak FBS. Now if we win by a few TDs, I might claim top 8, but that would be it at this point. Because I am pretty sure by yearend, a CSU win will not look as good as some might think .. by "some", I mean people who ignore the strength/weakness of FBS opponents .. no matter how bad they might be.

Yes, that was a poke at NC A&T fans ... and note, CSU recent history is better than ECU recent history and schedule many P5 teams OOC.

I'm rooting for you guys to win, but I think something like a 7-pt loss is probably likely. With the spread at 5.5, I think they'll beat that...barely. Like you mentioned, they weren't a bad team last year.

my biggest concern is their pass attack .. they know how to throw the ball for their level. But we will probably win the trenches in terms of run offense and run defense, and their overall defense has usually been weak.

So the only 2 area of concerns is their pass game and elevation. But we will hopefully prepare and game plan for the elevation ... take our run game, and grind out first downs, chew up clock, keep our defense rested. We didn't do a good job a year ago at NAU. Came out fast, but offense game plan was garbage. Spack seemd to intent on proving the elevation made no difference for his team ... it was obvious we were gassed. Hope we're smarter this time .. i know our OC is way smarter.

edit .. mistaken said Power 5 because they've played Colorado, Florida, and Arkansas ... but Colorado St is certainly not Big 12 or Power 5 ... doh xoopsx

hey, I helped you guys too by picking against you .. share some credit !!

We'll call it even, if my Redbirds pull this one out.

FYI, their Head Coach had some health scare in August and got hospitalized for a while. So that probably set them back some ... so I'm thinking they were playing some catch-up their first month of regular season. Their offense will keep getting better .. at least their pass game will.

8 pickers (basically anyone who picked Illinois St to win) had perfect weeks in the straight-up pick 'em this week and BisonTru's 2 game lead overall was cut in half. Only 2 pickers had perfect weeks against the spread; BisonTru and TheKingpin28. Yours truly (funny how that works ;)) took sole possession of first place overall on the season in picks against the spread.

well I hope the AGS Bison crew got a nice laugh curtousy the Blue Chicken Hens yesterday, that was a nice pic cx put up of the huddle under the front row....... but what a pathetic showing ....... I did post about the Hens problems earlier in the week on the game thread...it proved to be dead on accurate.. but still thought we would make a better showing

our front 3 on the DL got one of the worse beat downs I have ever seen, so much time ........

Well, to be fair, UD is a good team. NDSU is just that good right now. Looking at UD's schedule, it wouldn't surprise me they go 8-3 or 9-2. Reeder played well, he got burned by Bruce Anderson on the TD pass but he is a good LB. Papale is a good slot WR. The 3 man rush was not a good scheme against the Bison. UD did bottle up the run but they got wore down.

UD makes the playoffs IMO.

UD makes the playoffs IMO.That is a bold statement considering how weak their offense appears to be. Would your opinion be the same if the score had been 52 to zip which is probably what the score should have been. I wasn't impressed with their D at all, the only thing that stopped the Bison was two very weak holding calls (I watched the replay of the game and watched those two plays closely, they didn't replay either play on TV, weak calls at best and stopped Bison drives) and a goofy fumble on the goal line. UNA seemed like a much more physical and faster unit (far more skilled at the WR position) that UD. I would love for UD to make the playoffs, route them through Fargo, playoff cupcakes always taste delicious and I would agree with BFNW that you still have a shot at the playoffs.

Sorry UD fans for the Sunday trash talk but I was sort of surprised by the effort of UD in the game. I called the score at 21-7, that was blown out of the water by the middle of the first quarter.

Easy answer is that NDSU is that good right now.

UD is a good team but comparing them to NDSU right now is not a good metric. Ya, that game could have been a lot worse....like 60 to nothing.

Ya, I did expect their defense to be better. They looked better watching highlights of them but then again, NDSU is head and shoulders above any of their previous opponents.

Truly, I believe NDSY could beat any FBS team out of the top 15....or even out of the top 10.

After the game with upstate and cx at BWWs, there were many FBS games on TV and NDSU could play or beat most of them on there. Alabama looked great but all the other teams were not any better than the Bison.

If NDSU curb stomps ( or being more PC...beats them ) the Jacks this weekend then I don't see any team outside of JMU possibly beating them.

Anything is possible but wow, I don't know. Also, Johnson looked pretty banged up at RT for us, anybody heard anything on him.

Klieman said on the coach's show this morning that he (Johnson), Shepherd, and Cain all got a bit dinged up yesterday but they all should be fine for the game next week.

nobody on gohens is predicting playoff right now but not many seem to realize this is what the Bison do...... destroy teams, ask Sammy and Wofford last year who looked pretty good coming in..... and looked like the Hens on the way out

our offense is Ivy or Patriot league slow and no skill, we all do Like #33 Lee

did Alabama send you guys #42..... what a stud, it's like he said to himself, you know what, I think I'm going to jump this pass and waltz into the EZ for a pick 6

We were talking about that pick 6, it seemed like he knew what the play was going to be as it happened right in front of us and he just poached the QB on the throw.

Cox is a stud. Got two more years after this. And his younger brother is a true freshman this year so could see them both on the field together.

when do you play Alabama? now that would be something....LOL that would be a hell of an experience. Right now we have 2020 at Oregon, 22 at Arizona and 24 at Colorado. Appears the PAC12 is willing to let us come play. Would love an SEC game, although I don't think that would end well for us.

I don't think this is a stretch by any means, but I feel like if he gets word he could get drafted before his senior year, he might take it. This kid is easily the best LB in the nation and that includes De'Arius Christmas, Reeder, Rozeboom, etc...
