Thanks for the reminder, I need to buy tix for the Phils-D'Backs games at Chase Field in May. Why the hell do the D'Backs have 6:40 Starts? Everybody else does it at 7:00 or later! I know they've been doing this half-assed scheduling for a while now, and they've finally got half-assed uniforms to match!

Do you write for the Republic? Because some condescending columnist wrote the same thing a couple of years ago. Like admonishing residents in print is going to get them to the stadium.

My first D'Back game was in 2000, only their 3rd year. The usher was a retired New Yorker, and he and I were chatting about how clueless the fans were regarding "etiquitte." As if on cue, some guy gets up, and walks in front of everybody in the row to leave his seat... Just as the D'Backs had the bases loaded and nobody out! I can't ushers still hold the signs telling fans to wait for a break in play!

Amen. You're loyalties should not change everytime you move. Most people will always root for the team they followed as a kid - and that's how it should be. I couldn't care less about any of the Tampa teams.

I was born into a family that supported the Los Angeles Dodgers and my dad played baseball on the same team with the great Gil Hodges during WWII. When I was three years old, I went to my first MLB game at the L.A. Coliseum for my father's birthday. The pitching matchup that night was Sandy Koufax against Juan Marichal and the San Francisco Giants. It was one of only FOUR games and the first where these two great Hall of Famers met. Koufax won 4-3 when Daryl Spencer smacked a HR in the ninth inning (my first game ending with a walk-off HR). I was a huge Koufax fan from that day on (got all sorts of Koufax memorabillia around here).
I could have easily been a St. Louis Cardinals fan however. My father was a first baseman of some promise (enough so that HE played 1B and Hodges played 3B on that team in Hawaii) and he had a tryout with the Cardinals as a young man. My father wasn't signed by the Cardinals, so any chance of me being a Cardinals fan probably died right there.

Leo had good pitchers, young ones too, for a long time. The O's farm system sucks, thats part of the problem.

The O's problem is much deeper than their pitching. They have one of the worst owners in Peter Angelos. All that guy has done since buying them is run his mouth and run the organization into the ground.
I vote worst managment goes to Pittsburgh. Honorable mention to the Cubbies. Attention Cubs fans: If you want ownership to get serious about fielding a winning team, then stop going to Wrigley Field!!!
The Cubs draw spectacularly well and they move a lot of merchandise. During spring training, they almost always lead the Cactus League in attendance. Why should management bother to put together a winner? They're already making money. No need to put forth any sort of effort.

I've been a Twins fan all my life and won't change now. I saw the two World Series wins growing up and went through the bad years that followed. Now, the Twins are the marquee franchise in the small market arena.
Living close to Kansas City, the Royals would love to have what the Twins have had over the past five or so years just one year.

I grew up in South Jersey during the late 70's early 80's, so I have a very soft spot in my heart for the Phillies. A couple years ago they had the 20th anniversary of the 1983 WS between the O's and the Phils and before the Sunday afternoon game they had the old timers from that series come out and play a 6 inning game in the throw back uniforms. It was awesome.
The O's problem is much deeper than their pitching. They have one of the worst owners in Peter Angelos. All that guy has done since buying them is run his mouth and run the organization into the ground.
I kinda disagree. He took over and turned the team around in the 90's. He decided to keep Bobby Bonilla after the GM wanted to scuttle the team and build for the future in 1996. The O's made a run and got to the ALCS. Angelos got into the mindset that he turned the team around. Then they went wire to wire in 97 and Angelos didn't feel like dealing with Davey Johnsosns ego. Then he fired Jon Miller from the radio crew. He went on an incredible spending spree before the 1998 season and failed miserably. Then Albert Belle turned into an anchor which was dragging the team down until last season. Angelos has been gunshy ever since the Belle long term big money contract. I'm not saying he's a great owner, just that he's been horrible from day one isn't accurate.
They are stocked with good young arms.
The biggest obstacle the O's have is the division they play in. With New York and Boston throwing $200-250M a year, its hard to get a foothold.
