I am starting a doubleheader today at Wake Forest as the Towson Tigers take on Dave Clawson and the Demon Deacons. Some home cooking from those good, old ACC officials have helped Wake Forest to a 14-7 lead midway through the first period.

I am sitting in the press box with a veteran MEAC side judge. We both agreed that the receiver never had possession on the first Wake Forest TD. They reviewed it and let the call stand anyway.

Wake Forest and Towson were both running a lot of jet tempo in the first period with 45 total plays and 19 first downs. Wake Forest goes 73 yards before a 14-yard Sam Hartman TD run. 21-14 Deacons.

Nice delayed blitz from the Wake Forest middle linebacker Diondre Wallace leads to a drive-ending sack. A punt return of 70 yards by Wake Forest star receiver Greg Dortch makes it 31-14 Deacons with 9:49 left in the second quarter.

I'd have to believe Villanova, JMU, and Elon will eat them up with El Cid TO causing them fits. What I like about Clawson is he uses his playmakers and exploits them which can be beneficial until you run into a team that plays sound football using a proper system. He has turned Wake into a school that cannot only make a bowl game but win a bowl game. I know there was a few years where they showed up in the mid to late 2000s, but it seems like Clawson has a prime job in a P5 conference to go with it.

Incredible TD punt return of 60 yards by Greg Dortch makes it 38-14 for Wake Forest late in the first half. Third TD of the day for one of the most under-the-radar players in college football.

Tom Flacco with a fine, floated throw for a TD pass of 18 yards to Shane Leatherberry to cut the lead to 38-20 for Wake Forest with 42 seconds left in the first half. Towson's offense has been impressive.

Greg Dortch of Wake Forest has 292 yards and three TDs with two punt returns for scores, all by himself. Impressive QB play from Wake Forest true freshman Sam Hartman and Towson redshirt junior Tom Flacco. Flacco is the youngest brother of Joe Flacco.

You obviously haven't followed Clawson's career very closely from his days at Villanova, Fordham, Richmond, Tennessee, Bowling Green and now Wake Forest.

One more tidbit on Clawson. When he was hired at Villanova by Andy Talley, he won that position over a young coach named Mike Leach, who was the runner-up for the job.

There have been some unbelievably bad, or biased decisions by the ACC replay official today. Another non-catch by a Wake Forest receiver is ruled a catch when he was clearly out of bounds to extend a Deacon drive.
