Another good article on an FCS band that outplayed its FBS counterpart in the NCAA's. xthumbsupx

"It was 30 minutes before tipoff inside the Breslin Center late Sunday morning, and Delaware State was putting Vanderbilt to shame.

The 30-member Delaware State band, that is.

With their drums and their cymbals, whose two wielders danced while they smashed, and mostly their blaring brass, they filled the arena with a wonderful, welcoming clamor.

At the other end of the gym, Vanderbilt, with two-thirds the musicians, hardly made a comparative peep. They had flutes and piccolos. Too bad the guy inside the Commodore mascot suit nearby wasn't Lionel Richie."

"At several of those stoppages, the DSU band played. And when they were done, many in the crowd of 6,504 stood and applauded. The Bowling Green band members, who had sat beside them, stared awestruck." xeekx xnodx

I completely agree. Del State's band ranks up there with the tops.

Bowling Green has one of the most highly regarded music education programs in the country. Hopefully these future school music teachers took notes on how to make the music count. xthumbsupx

Congrats to DSU! I've read an article about HBCU bands in the tournament for the 5 or 6 years. In 2000 or 01 it was Hampton, 2001 it was Alabama State, 2006 it was Southern, it was Alcorn State a few years back. I even read an article about them is ESPN the magazine about 2 years ago about who excited fans are to see the HBCU bands at the tourney!xthumbsupx

I was at the NCAA tournament in Salt Lake in few years ago when Arizona played Jackson St. The Jackson St. band was so good that the crowd would start booing whenever the Arizona band would play & cheering wildly when the JSU band performed.
