Angelo State vs ACU (I'm surprised some people have this being a close game. Angelo State won only 5 games last year and has to replace quite a bit of production on offense. Their defense is good but if we can get over 460 yards and only allow 1 sack against Baylor I don't see ASU being able to stop us much. Not saying it'll be 60-0 but I don't think it'll be close.)
Murray State vs UCA- rout

Prairie View A&M vs SHSU- somewhat close, like within 2 or 3 TDs

Lamar vs Texas Tech- rout

Angelo State vs ACU - We better not take this game for granted, but if we really prepare and play, should be a W.
Murray State vs UCA - I think ya'll got this.
McNeese vs HBU - get'er done.
Prairie View A&M vs SHSU - This should actually be a good game and test for SHSU, but I think you can pull it off.
UIW vs N. Texas - Too much.
Lamar vs TexasTech - Massacre more than a raid.
Grambling vs NWST - Really going off last year here.
SLU vs LSU - The dyslexia is just too much.
Nicholls vs Tulane - Really could go either way, but kinda need to root for my other alma mater, sorry Nicholls.
Tarleton vs SFA - I think ya'll have this as well.

On the fence with Prairie View A&M and SHSU.
The Panthers played SHSU tough last season in Prairie View and are already two game battle tested this season with great results.
But SHSU is 50-3 in Huntsville since 2010, but then again Prairie View A&M is 15-8 on the road since 2014.
What about Tarleton State and Coach Todd Whitten?
They beat a 2017 9-4 playoff team Delta State 44-13 for their first game this season, return 61 upper class men. The Texans ran the ball 50 times for the game for 285 yards and 2 TDs averaging 5 yards per carry. So they can pound it and move the chains.
Well I've got a few days.

GSU doesn't have all-world @ QB anymore (Kincade). Naturally, w/ the departure of their coveted OC and a few other position coaches to PVAMU, it seems to have slightly slowed their adjustment towards positive progression (offensively). I think they lost quite a few on their defensive roster, as well.
Mc, we are going to huntsvegas to #1, take over their stadium, and #2, win that game. We are N-O-T the same coaching staff from year prior. This staff's pedigree is quite differing from the one we lost last year. There will be no surprises in our starting rotation over the last few weeks excepting the addition of... perhaps, I guess.

Trip, this one has been circled for awhile. SHSU IS the top Division-I FCS program in Texas.
I assure you, it's been conveyed to the staff by a very important A&M Sys member how important the ascension of PVAMU football is to the overall strategy of PVAMU's athletic (football) direction. Hopefully the weather will hold up and we can witness a game that will keep all of us on the edge of our seats.
While I'm here, I think ACU just signed a home-and-home w/ us for the '22(? '21) and '23(? '22) seasons.

Alright to expound upon my Sept. 29th thoughts: Assuming W/L for each team. Yes this can change but its a little perspective from what I've seen so far. An 8-3 division I record seems to be the mark of getting a look at the playoffs. (unless you're McNeese xlolx ) Below is my thoughts on how this season will go for teams in our conference. If I messed up and contradicted a game for two teams let me know. It was alot of data to organize. How do you see your team doing? I believe HBU is NOT post season eligible but I may be wrong on that.

Yeah, those are the contradictions I asked to look for in my table. I do think Nicholls, based off how they have been playing will win that game but if they DO lose that game then the SHSU game will be pivitol for their 8-3 record. If they are successful in both of those games then I don't see much battle for them the rest of the year unless there are injuries or other unforseen circumstances. McNeese is big for them and Nicholls is big for McNeese.
I need to color code the likeliest "green" to make the playoffs to might "yellow' to least likeliest "orange" to NOT eligible (HBU) "red" if that is correct.

I think a pivotal game for us this year will be SFA. I think the biggest reason we lost to them last year was we had no offense. Even at that, we only lost by 10 points. SFA seems to be our most immediate and closely matched toughest opponent [at least as far as ratings and predictors appear so far] I think we may both be improved, but if our offense has truly turned around enough I think we can win this game. I think we NEED to win this game if we are going to have much of any success the rest of the season as it will only get tougher... xeyebrowx

A loss against SFA will give you two for the year. A third loss may come to McNeese so I see that more of your pivitol game. A loss there and with the games you have left I believe there is little chance of winning out and making it. But ANYGIVENSATURDAY!

I wouldn't totally disagree, I mainly think McNeese is the harder game. I think, as far as our progress as a program goes, we need to show we can beat SFA before thinking we can go in and beat McNeese; especially on their home turf (New turf at that).... I am asking because a UNA fan is griping that UNA isn't allowed to be voted on in the AGS poll, but has received votes in the STATS poll. I can't remember how this affected you or your feelings on this.

No, our all world DT is playing for the Raiders and I’m not sure what LBs you are referring to but none of ours were all world and the one that made the most tackles graduated. I actually think our DBs this year may be the best level of our defense. We have a couple of great receivers returning but qb is a big question mark to me. Our only chance is if our O-line is as good as it looks to be.

We were not included in the poll during the entire four year transition period. It was a moot issue for us. We were never good enough to justify a vote. You have already staked our a legit claim. Beat NDSU and there will be howls of protest all around.

I'm not talking about PJ Hall; there were 2 all-world DEs returning, if memory serves correct. Also, I think there's 1 LBer who returns.

UCA fans (and ACU fans, too, but I don't think this applied to you), when you were transitioning, were you included in any AGS polls? I am asking because a UNA fan is griping that UNA isn't allowed to be voted on in the AGS poll, but has received votes in the STATS poll. Ursus says that the poll is only for teams which can win a conference championship and/or are eligible to participate in the FCS playoffs. I can't remember how this affected you or your feelings on this.
I don't think we were until 2010, our first year of post season eligibility. I could be wrong but I don't remember rankings that far back! xlolx I'll have to look it up. We won the conference two years before being post season eligible...well, we had the best record in conference...and had to give the title to the second place team...xlolx But I don't recall ever getting listed in polls or ranks until 2010.

UCA was included in the AGS polls in 2008 as a transition team. They finished first in the Southland, but were not eligible for the conference title or playoffs.

The DE is Chris Stewart and he’s out 4 to 5 weeks. LBs will be new. One is a returning starter but he was injured in the Richmond game last year and did not play against you last year. Seriously our run D was terrible last year and don’t see how it will be better this year. We better hope our new qb steps right in!

I’m worried about the run D too. I think the secondary will be much improved and the D will be able to contain the passing game. But I am definitely worried about the run D. We’ll find out quickly if this is an improved unit or just another typical bad SHSU defense that will fold under adversity. Meaning we’ll find out when they head to Nicholls.
I really like Adrian Contreras. That dude can ball! Sr out of East View. I think he is due for a breakout year, along with the rest of the Kats D. Very athletic group with plenty of talent and experience. We have the athletes and I hope it translates onto the football field! Also, can’t wait for Chris to come back. He certainly won’t be able to impact things as much as PJ did, but he IS an impact player.
I’m not worried about the offense. Lets hope the kicking game is better. We have an aussie this year!

Schmid had the perfect seat to learn from Briscoe. Has he gained any weight since leaving twhs? I know his dad left his HC'ing gig @ twhs so he could follow his son and be some type of volunteer/non-salaried position holder @ SHSU.
Is Javin Webb still @ SHSU? He's remarkable and naturally, we wanted him to be a Panther when he left uofh.

Javan Webb is not at Sam this year, not sure what happened. Many fans who have seen practices and scrimmages thus far believe Schmid will ultimately be the man. He has grown some but not much. He doesn’t have the arm strength of Dare or Brock but he is more accurate in the mid range passing game and he’s hands down the fastest. Whether he starts or not I expect to see him in the game. As they say you can’t coach speed and he’s got wheels. When he’s been in scrimmage hes moved the ball and that’s without him being able to run. He’s really a smart player who makes good decisions with the ball. Last time we had a coach’s son at qb it worked out pretty well for us and he wasn’t close to the speed that Schmid has. He took his high school team to the 6a state championship and you don’t do that unless you can play. Will see soon enough.

I kinda' sorta' think he was a semi-troubled young man. Hate to hear that he's not @ SHSU. I know he had 2 years of eligibility left after the herman fiasco @ uofh. At 6'6", I'd think Dare has not only the arm strength but naturally, he has the experience over Schmid and Brock. I saw ~7 of Schmid's games his senior year, a few his jr yr, and he's indeed quite a quality young man both athletically and character wise as well. SHSU did well to sign him and I expect him to do overly well. LT knocked twhs out convincingly in the 6A title game and Schmid showed a lot of poise while his OL let him down on several pivotal occasions, along w/ horrible coaching calls (offensively).
SHSU's OL, DL (w/out PJ Hall and w/ 2 stout DEs), and returning WRs are very concerning. There's plenty of video detailing PVAMU's last 2 games but there is zero on SHSU. So, in that regard, we're not sure who has the upper hand (2-game experience vs 1st game kinks + depth + experience).

Good to get some Murray State input on this game. UCA was down 4 to Tulsa and fumbled a kickoff with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter and a chance to drive to go ahead. We get turnovers. xlolx I got a chance to listen to the coach's show today. Brown said his QB wanted to make a good impression against Tulsa and was overthinking his throws because he wanted to get it right everytime. Just after half coach told him to loosen the cannon, trust your instincts, and go play ball. It made a HUGE difference in that third quarter. But it was his first game as starting QB so I can imagine he was nervous too. But that's done and he's at home...and it may be a bit wet on Saturday from all that rain entering the state and lingering. So who knows! Either way we finally have a home game! xlolx

12 minute halftime here. Rain is making the game tough. Can't get a good read on Bears abilities.

41-24 win for ACU over ASU. It looks worse than it actually was. We dominated every quarter but the 2nd when our guys just completely went flat and let them score 24 unanswered points. I still can't get a good read on this team.

Final
UCA held Racers to 56 yards rushing. Both teams had weather issues. Racers have big potential with that pass game but their Oline, like ours, has issues.
Offense
UCA 444 yards
Murray State 265

Yep. First game of the season, though. Also, new offense. I'll take it. PVAMU has a lot of talent. That little RB of theirs is all that and more..

Lions put up a good fight at LSU in a game that was closer than the final score. Final was 31-0 but easily could have been a 17-7, 17-10 type score. We gave them three short fields and they connected on a Hail Mary on the final play of the first half. We turned the ball over twice in the red zone while driving. We were sloppy with three turnovers, a ton of false start penalties, and made enough mistakes for a half a season, but defense played well and did some good things on offense against one of the top 4 or 5 defenses in college football. We outgained them 207 to 83 in the second half. Disappointing we didn't score, but came away injury free and looking forward to getting conference play started next week.
And ULM beat a pretty good Southern Miss team on the road tonight.

What did we learn about the SLC race this week? SLU’s 31 point loss to LSU might have been the highlight of this week’s performances.

I don't know about highlight but should not have been 31. They shouldn't have gotten out of the teens to be honest ... at least on this night.

Really sorry to hear that! McNeese has been there before -- cancelled game at LSU. Just awful!

I saw where weather played a big part in the SFA game. It played a big part in our game too. Fumbles everywhere. Refs sucking up the calls wanting to go home. Just sloppy play in sloppy conditions! We still don't know how good or bad the Bears are this year. xlolx SLU next week. Yikes!

Frustrating for PV and the LS situation, could easily be 3-0 right now with a FBS and a Top 10 FCS win with a chance of running the table of the SWAC.
Meanwhile last night in Nac.

At this point I really feel I need to actually see some conference play to compare with this, and the last couple of, weeks's play. I don't think I would be able to make a halfway valuable thought of what we learned from this week. I think this week was full of yield signs in jumping to conclusions, even for me and our Cats.

I'd argue that Northwestern State's 34-7 win over Grambling could be the most impressive of the week. I know GSU is breaking in a new OC, QB and RB, but to hold the Tigers to 7 while forcing 5 TOs and getting 4 sacks is impressive. Not to mention that new QB Shelton Eppler threw 4 TDs in the first half, leading the Demons out to a 21-0 lead in the first three possessions. This looks like a much different Demon squad to me.

Also, as an aside, I know the Demon faithful have sort of vanished from AGS so I will try to represent a bit. It's been a bit of a slump for NSU but it sure feels like there is a new vibe around the program. I think they will surprise some folks this year.

Please do. We need more SLC reps. Nobody here from HBU, UIW and Lamar. Stick around.

I had been on here in the past under this account but I couldn't remember the login info. I tried to register for a new account and it told me that registration had been locked. Luckily I tried a few different combos and got logged back into this one, but I don't know why it's not allowing new account registrations

I hope some folks come back. Heck, we are struggling to get folks back to our own board, much less anywhere else. But maybe some more positive results will get folks back and posting
