So the second, and last (I promise), game I want to run this year is a twist on the Survivor games. Typically, you take a single conference and pick the winner of a game each week; if you pick correctly, you move on to the next week, if you pick wrong, you are eliminated. But that leads to the CAA guys just playing with a group comprised of 90% CAA guys, and the same goes for Big Sky, MVFC, etc. Folks like to stay in their comfort zone of picking games in their conferences. Well, since all of us voters *should be* paying attention to the other conferences as well, I thought a nice way to combine the Survivor game with a bit of incentive to pay attention to how teams in other conferences are doing would be to offer a twist on it.

So for anyone who is interested in playing, here's how it works. Each week, you pick a game and you have to pick the FCS team that will win (can't pick an FBS/FCS unless you think the FCS team will win). But instead of not being able to pick that team again, you can't pick any team from that conference again. Pick NDSU in Week 1? Great, but you can't pick another MVFC team for the rest of the year.

There are 13 conferences (we're not doing the three Indy's) and 12 weeks this year, most teams are playing 11-games with a bye-week, so you'll get to skip a single conference. That means in the final week of the season, you will only two conferences remaining to choose from. But you need to put in your first winner of the year before 5 pm EST on Thursday.

So if you want to play, just reply in this thread with (for example):
Indiana State - winner

That means I can't pick an MVFC team for the rest of the season. After Week 1's games are done, we'll see who is left and make our next picks. If we need a tie-breaker at the end of the season, we'll reset with whoever is left and head in to the post-season games.

I like this Supe. Although just to add my two cents I wouldn't think you would need to declare a conference you're not going to do. Honestly survivor games seem really easy, but every year some crazy upsets happen and take out a lot of people. Someone runs a full season full fcs - minus nonplayoff conferences one on bisonville and usually there is only 2 or 3 remaining by the playoffs and then he keeps it going into the playoffs to determine the winner.

Thanks for the heads up, I was concerned there would be too many folks left. In that case, I'll go back and edit and take that part out. If there's only going to be a handful of people left, might as well get the reward of two conferences to choose from in the final week before the playoffs.

Perhaps we should incorporate point spreads the final week to make things a little more interesting.

My suggestion...take everyone who survived to the end and keep it rolling through the playoffs. Make all conferences available again, but like the regular season, you can only pick a team from a conference once (so you can't just keep picking CAA teams or MVFC teams, or whatever).

People would have to be more strategic because, say you think NDSU is going to win the championship, well, that means you'd need to save your last pick for the MVFC and you'd have to pick other conferences teams in all the earlier rounds. What if the playoff bracket sets up that it looks like two of the 4 quarterfinal games are MVFC vs MVFC (I'm not saying it will or that it's at all likely...just using it as an example)...then you'd have to really think about who might win one of the other two games unless you really want to use your MVFC pick in that round, knowing that that could set up a MVFC vs MVFC semifinal game too.

Like, in last year's playoffs, you could have gone with Kennesaw State (Big South) in the first round, Wofford (Southern) in the second round, Sam Houston State (Southland) in the quarterfinals, James Madison (CAA) in the semifinals, then NDSU (MVFC) in the championship game...to get you through to the end.

You'd probably have to pick an upset or two to get through and it's going to weed people out pretty quickly, I'd imagine. It's entirely possible nobody makes it through to the end, but whoever is the last person standing wins...maybe use the championship game as a tiebreaker if you have to.

My suggestion...take everyone who survived to the end and keep it rolling through the playoffs. Make all conferences available again, but like the regular season, you can only pick a team from a conference once (so you can't just keep picking CAA teams or MVFC teams, or whatever).

People would have to be more strategic because, say you think NDSU is going to win the championship, well, that means you'd need to save your last pick for the MVFC and you'd have to pick other conferences teams in all the earlier rounds.
