From Mike Reiss' Patriots Blog on Boston.com

As Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Vice President of Player Personnel Scott Pioli are in the midst of their annual scouting trip down South, the team isn't forgetting about its own backyard.

On Wednesday, the Patriots put UMass running back Steve Baylark (http://umassathletics.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/baylark_steve00.html) through a private workout in Amherst.

“It was exciting for Steve to have the Patriots take a closer look at him,” said Mike Boyer, Baylark's agent, who noted that Baylark has gained more yards over his career than any Division 1 draft-eligible running back.

“He’s looking for a place to showcase his talents and the Patriots’ team-first approach would fit his style. Steve is willing to do whatever it takes at the next level to contribute to a winning ballclub.”

with no more Dillon, baylark could be the power that they need. Though maroney will probably become the feature and they will use faulk sparingly.

Should this be in FCS and the Pros?

Nice to see an FCS guy getting a look from the NFL!

Outstanding news!!!

Baylark would fit into the team concept of the Pats...

This is good news. I hope they at least sign him as a free agent. He could make a good backup for Maroney.

Great for him.
I'd love to see him in the Pat's back field.
Almost as much as I hated to see him in the UMass back field.

No matter where he lands, I'll be happy for him.

I just thank GOD he's not coming back. xcoolx xbawlingx xbawlingx xbawlingx

Hope some team gives him a legitimate shot.

One thing he can do besides being a power runner is catch the ball out of the back field.

The UMass 2006 highlight film has a sequence of him making a one-handed over-the-head catch that was really pretty.

I could see him be a valuable option as a third-down back.
