Hope he is as happy in his next life pursuit as he has seemed to be in Williamsburg. Fair winds and following seas to a fine gentlemen and a good coach.

He actually announced that this season would be his last. So it gives W&M plenty of time to start keeping an eye out for potential replacements and bring guys in for interviews as soon as they are available.

Bill and Mary is a great coaching gig for a lot of reasons. With this much time to search, they should end up with a every good HC for 2019.

I agree. Plenty of time for them to really find the type of guy they're looking for, and plenty of time for potential coaching candidates to be aware of the position and prepare for applying for it. It's about the best situation you can hope for with a coaching change.

Here is hoping the Tribe team will take this as added motivation to send "Coach" out on a huge victory note and surprise all the preseason predictions! He is a quality guy who put the school, team and family ahead of personal glory.

Not to diminish Laycock too much here, but would we ever see someone like this be around as long as he has anymore? He's averaged just a little over 6 wins per season over 38 years - that's basically 6-5 football over those years. He's made the playoffs in just 12 of those 38 years and only 7 playoff wins over that same time frame. He's a fantastic person and clearly a class guy, but would someone with such a modest W/L record and a very modest impact on the playoffs find himself employed for almost 4 decades anywhere else or even in this day and age?
