So Howard is getting creative with its helmets. Some like it, some are calling it the ugliest helmet outside of Maryland. What say you all?

That's pretty tame. The logo is a bit busy, but it looks fine. Not having extra stripes and stuff on the helmet is helping.

Colgate had something similar in 2015 for the 125th season:

Logo is basically this:

A little busy. Presumably if you give the years 1893-2018, college students don’t need you to tell them that’s 125 years. And what’s the home plate design under the numbers?

I like them!

It looks nice in the picture - up close. But from the stands you probably can't tell what it is.

Whew....I read the title of this thread and thought Howard’s Players were not going to wear helmets this season.

I know we’re moving toward a non-contact game of 7-on-7 / Basketball on turf in which players will no longer need helmets, but I thought Howard might be getting a little too far ahead of the curve.

As far as the helmet design...meh.

It's not terrible, but it's along way from good.
As others have said, way too busy.

It’d be a cool memorabilia to sell at games. It’s not a good logo for wearing on the field. It’s not bad really, just not great. Far better than whatever Maryland was smoking.

I think had they dropped the Howard Bison wordmark it'd be damn near perfect for a commemorative helmet logo. Though I understand putting the name wordmark on it.

I like it as it is even with the being slightly busy.

Great photo of some classic uniform styles from the Bulldogs and Red Raiders! I have a feeling that Colgate will have a similar patch or decal on the uniforms for the School's Sesquicentennial celebration, which begins this Fall.

They aren't bad IMO. They certainly don't look that controversial to me.

A bit too busy, but I don't mind it. Of course, I actually like some of the UMD helmets, I just wish they would reverse the shoulderpad colors so that the combo matched the state flag.

Like it. Too many unnecessary numbers but logo is great

I enjoy it. I would have liked it better without the "Howard Bison" namesake on it. May have looked cleaner but in the end I appreciate and enjoy the attempt to pay homage to past and present and the legacy there.

It's just a white helmet with a logo. Why is this a story? xconfusedx

Just looked again. Why does the logo have home plate on it?

It's an homage to Greg Maddux, an alum of Howard.

A replica would make a good souvenir for alumni and such.

Wonder if the younger Bison (NDSU) will do something for the 125th year of football in 2019?

When I saw the thread's title, I thought Howard was not going to wear helmets this year! Certain caused me to check out the story. While I understand the change, no one but the players and officials on the field will be able to read it.
