I know some people don't care, but I felt this is a pretty big thing for SD right now.
Due to decline in enrollments and schools being forced to co-op, the SDHSAA has approved the decision to add in 6-Man Football to our state.
It will replace Class 9B, leaving 2 9 Man classes, 9A and 9AA, along with 4 11 man classes, B, A, AA, AAA.
Male ADM cutoff for 6 man is 40, to high in my opinion.
This will help cut down on co-ops, as we just had a massive co-op in 9 Man due to enrollments, the team is known as, Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian, as well as another big co-op with Eureka/Bowdle/Leola/Frederick.
It'll be good to get rid of these 4-5 team co-ops.

I'm in favor of this. I think that 9 man is the biggest class numbers wise in Minnesota. A quarter century ago the MSHSL wanted to drop the class altogether. Fortunately they didn't. More and more schools are forced to co-op. This will still allow the smaller schools to have the sport.

Back in WW2 when my Dad was in high school they had 6 man around here. He said it was really wide open and high scoring.

My old high school in MT just went to 6 man. They co-oped with a neighbor to play 8 man, but split and went 6 man. Personally I don't like 6 man. I played 8 man. There is such a wide gap from 11/9/8 man football and 6 man football. Just check out some scores. It's aerial football with scores almost every possession.

I do get the need somewhat with rural populations falling, but in MT the two schools (mine and another one) that I saw switch to 6 man did so because some parents didn't like co-oping with the other town. Kinda petty IMO. I was told back when I was going out as a Freshman kids from my school don't get to play. That was BS. I played quite a bit and honestly I was pretty average.

Texas has two 6-man divisions. All the rest are 11 man.

Granted, I don’t live there, but there needs to be a limit on how many schools can form a co-op. If you need five schools to put a nine man team, just don’t bother.

We used to have 6 Man here back after WW2, there was an article somewhere about a team who was dominant in 6 Man, Claremont I think. Eventually 8 Man replaced it as the population went up and eventually 9 Man came along. Now with most people moving to the big towns, especially the Sioux Falls suburbs, the small towns are dying. West River teams especially will benefit from this, it was proposed by the Faith Athletic Director. He was worried that their numbers would keep dropping and a co-op wasn't an option as the nearest team was 30-40 miles away.

I've seen some Texas high school scores, and it was around 90-60 for some games. Definitely not my type of game, I have trouble watching some 9 Man games get to the 60's on a regular.

My dad didn't go to high school due to him having to help my grandfather when he had a heart attack, so he dropped out. But my uncle played 6 Man in Thomas, SD.

There is six-man football in Alabama.

It involves a “league” of eight small Christian schools.

I wish SD would’ve gotten 6 Man back in 1999 instead of a 3rd 9 Man Class. What I fear is that some co-op’s who’ve been together for some years and also play other sports together like Basketball, they won’t want to split up. Though I think it’ll get at least 20 teams for the first year.
