Grambling great Everson Walls and Ron Springs will be linked forever, and not just because of their time as NFL teammates with the Dallas Cowboys.
Springs now has one of Walls' kidneys.
Springs and Walls are recovering at a Dallas hospital after the transplant operation — the first between two former U.S. professional athletes.
The 47-year-old Walls volunteered to be tested after things fell through with two of Springs' relatives. The former football stars and their doctors held a news conference on Friday, saying they hoped to inspire others to become organ donors by sharing their story.
