There is a difference, this is a thread about basketball, and all the other times you are talking about is when a different sport outside of football gets some small mention in a football thread. Huge difference, this thread will always be about basketball, other mentions of different sports will only be for a little bit and then the talk goes back to football.

North Alabama gets serious with basketball coaching search
North Alabama will interview four potential candidates for the men’s head basketball position this week, the TimesDaily has learned.The four candidates will be on campus by the middle of the week, while other candidates could be brought in later.

Expected to interview this week are: LSU-Alexandria head coach Larry Cordaro; former Georgia assistant coach Phillip Pearson; Wyoming assistant coach Tony Pujol and Belmont assistant coach James Strong.

UNA athletics director Mark Linder declined to comment on any potential candidates. The job was posted on March 13, one day after it was announced coach Bobby Champagne’s contract would not be renewed after 15 years with the program.

Linder said the job will remain posted until filled.

“We are still expecting more candidates to apply because some have teams which were still playing this weekend,” Linder said Saturday. “We don’t want to take anyone out of the process by moving too quickly. We have been given an indication that more applicants may apply, so the job remains open till filled.”

Cordaro recently completed his fourth year at LSU-Alexandria by leading his team to the NAIA Championship Game where the Generals lost 83-80 to Graceland (Iowa). LSU-Alexandria finished the season with a 29-7 record and won the Red River Athletic Conference tournament.

In four seasons at LSU-Alexandria, Cordaro has compiled a record of 115-16, which includes a 34-1 record in 2016-17. A Rushton, La., native, Cordaro was a member of the Xavier basketball team before transferring to LSU, where he graduated in 2002. He previously spent three years as LSU’s Director of Basketball Operations. Cordaro also was an assistant at Texas Arlington for two seasons and spent eight years as an assistant at Southeastern Louisiana.

Pearson is a former player and assistant coach at Alabama. He was a member of four NCAA tournament teams as a player at Alabama. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant under Wimp Sanderson at Arkansas-Little Rock.

Pearson went to Murray State as an assistant coach under Mark Gottfried in 1995 and returned to Alabama as an assistant under Gottfried in 1998. He helped the Tide reach the NCAA tournament five times, including an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2004. A Montgomery native, Pearson has spent the past nine years at Georgia, including the last three years as associated head coach.

Pujol recently completed his second season as an assistant at Wyoming, helping the Cowboys to a 20-13 record this season. Prior to his move to Wyoming, Pujol spent five seasons as a part of Anthony Grant’s staff at Alabama. The Tide was 99-71 in his five years in Tuscaloosa, including three consecutive 20-win seasons from

Pujol also spent coached with Grant at Virginia Commonwealth. He spent three seasons at VCU and also coached two seasons at Appalachian State from 2004-06. Pujol also coached high school basketball for 13 seasons in Florida, leading Northwest Christian Academy to three state championships and compiling a 250-46 record.

Strong is a Huntsville native and a former player and coach at Vanderbilt. He played for the Commodores from 1997-2000 and served as team captain as a senior. He led the SEC in steals during his junior season and led Vanderbilt to three postseason appearances. Strong was a member of Kevin Stallings’ staff at Vanderbilt from 2001-06.

After leaving Vanderbilt, Strong spent five years at Furman, where he was named associate head coach prior to the 2010-11 season. He moved to Belmont in 2011 and has spent the past seven years as an assistant with the Bruins. Strong has been a part of three NCAA tournament teams at Belmont, and the Bruins have won at least 20 games in each of his seven seasons as an assistant coach.

Linder said UNA has received more than 55 applications for the head coaching job.

“We have a very deep and very strong pool of candidates,” he said. “We have many with Division I experience at very successful programs, including some with head coaching experience. It is going to be a tough selection because of the quality and depth of the applicants.”

I want you guys to bring all your information and share it. Love having it here. I have tried for a very long time ot keep the FCS board to specifically that arena of why we are here. Posters that have been here a while know this and sometimes jump in to guide others that might screw up or just not know this which is what I believe was happening here but apparently there is something going on here from elsewhere. Don't give a damn. It will not be an argument over what is ok and what is not and so forth. If something got missed then it is simply because it was not noticed by me when it was/is happening but it does not change that this is an action that can easily be corrected and will be when caught.

Not a big deal, just want you to know that the ol' "they got to do it so why can't I" type of thing ain't gonna get us off on the right foot.

If someone mentions it is in the wrong place it doesn't need to be a fight is the point. Thank you for starting a new thread in the proper place and I have merged the other one with it.xthumbsupx

We have our new coach. Former Alabama assistant, Tony Pujol. When UNA was one of the top teams yearly in D2, defense was the name of the game. They had gotten away from that as well as winning.
Pujol:
“I want to make it fun for our guys to play here, but that does not mean I don’t expect the guys to defend because we will hang our hat on defense. If a player doesn’t defend hard then I have a hard time putting him on the floor.”

Pujol said he has already reached out to UNA’s early signees. He wants to talk to his new players in person and will do that Friday before his introductory press conference. He said no decisions on which players will or will not return will be made until he has time to evaluate his new team.

North Alabama's recruiting to date:

At 6-7 195, Lanett’s Emanuel Littles' has a similar build as a young Scotty Pippen. The fact that he plays forward but could also play guard makes him an exciting prospect.
As a senior he averaged 17.4 points, 16 rebounds and three assists per game while blocking 56 shots AND as a junior, Littles averaged 19.2 points, 14.2 rebound and had 220 blocks. His high school teammate, Jawon Howell, also signed with the Lions as an outside linebacker. UNA, along with New Mexico State, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Atlantic, Towson, New Hampshire and Clark-Atlanta have offered Littles' and fellow All State teammate Anquavious Pollard.

6-2 guard Christian Agnew from Taylor Made Academy in Detroit. Michigan Elite 25 - (Westland John Glenn, MI./Michigan Mustangs-Watts 17u) Energy, athleticism, good shooter off the bounce or catch from the mid-range and perimeter, strong above and at the rim finisher, length, solid handles, a natural two who can play the point, poised, and a good defender on or off the balance.

Small forward - Cameron Diggs - 6-9, 225 pounds Soph...He had offers from Middle Tennessee and Illinois State out of high school but had to go JUCO. The 6-9 forward from Mobile averaged eight points and five rebounds per game as a true freshman for the Warriors, who qualified for the state and regional tournaments last season. Through his first five games as a sophomore, he is shooting 51 percent from the floor and averaging 12 points and 5.3 rebounds for coach Robert Thompson.

Center/Power forward - Andrew Morrissey 6-8 238 Fr. Morrissey averaged 15 points and 12.3 rebounds per game as a junior at Winnebago High School in Illinois. The team captain was a first team all-conference selection and also earned third team IBCA All-State honors. He led the Indians to a 17-12 record and a regional championship.



Point guard - Jamari Blackmon 6-0 Fr. 2018 Hoover (AL) combo guard Jamari Blackmon was one of the most impressive players in Alabama's 2018 class this season, as he led the Buccaneers to an Elite Eight appearance in 7A with his high-octane scoring.
A 7A All-State performer, Blackmon will give the Lions another quality piece as the program transitions from Division II to Division I. He brings an impressive knack for scoring the ball to the table. With his shooting and ability to score in bunches behind the arc, along with his toughness and ability to finish at the rim, Blackmon will be a tough assignment in the A-Sun Conference.
Prior to his commitment, Blackmon also took an official visit to Arkansas-Little Rock, who had extended an offer. UAB, South Alabama, Alabama State, USC Upstate, and Tennessee Tech had all shown interest, too.

Point guard/Off guard - Sean Elmore 6-2 175 Fr. Mountain Brook junior guard Sean Elmore says “I love to get defensive stops,” Elmore says to anyone who’s interested. “It’s one of the best feelings that there is in this game.” With that kind of attitude, Elmore would be an asset to the Spartans even if he wasn’t a serious offensive threat. Being one of the most effective three-point shooters in Alabama makes him the ultimate basketball weapon.

We may be looking at as many as THIRTEEN new players rolling in before November depending on the rules.
