INDIANAPOLIS - The Eagles, according to a league source, completed negotiations on a three-year contract extension with quarterback A.J. Feeley this morning, which ended any chance for Jeff Garcia to return to the team in 2007.

Garcia has a very short list of West Coast "O's" he can work with now...

he NEVER should have let his agent say "Long term contract" to the Eagles with a straight face... he should have taken the one year deal...

Correct. The Eagles were not going to give Garcia--38 years old a longterm contract. Feeley has shown he can do the job as well, and he is young. While everyone has a lot of feel good vibes about what Garcia did this year, what the Eagles did was the right decision once Garcia said he wanted a multi-year contract.

Not really. Eagles were willng to bring Garcia back--but at what price? Garcia's agent priced his client out of their market. The Eagles have a very consistent track record on multi-year contracts and especially with old players. While everyone would love to have Garcia back, they aren't going to blow the position under the cap that will hurt their ability with other signings.

Well, he was being paid last year while playing. It wasn't pro-bono work (as far as I know, Steve Bono is not coming back ;) )

Worse yet will be next week when Stallworth signs with another team.

Prediction: after testing the market for a 38 year-old backup (i.e. understudy to Phillip Rivers), Garcia will come crawling back to the Eagles and sign that 1-year deal. :twocents:

Eagles say they're going to make a run at Stallworth, but I don't know if they'll pony up enough. New England is supposedly very interested. Also reported that Philly will be going after a QB this year, so cap money will be in the consideration.

You think?
I'll never understand why so many Philly fans love A.J. He's a "competent" QB, but far from good.

Some sources say Jake Plumer to the Texans
Garcia to Denver

He showed himself to be a 'gamer'. I agree he isn't 'starter' material for a long haul, but he is 'competent' as you say as a backup.

My Minnesota Vikings might be looking for another geezer to run the show next year.

That's what has me worried. I think that McNabb will miss 4-8 games at the beginning of the season. Garcia would be nice to have in that situation.

If McNabb does miss anytime at the start of the year because he's not ready then the Eagles' should deservedly get criticism heaped on them for letting Garcia walk. I don't mind having Feeley be your guy, but if McNabb isn't ready on opening day that means you have all of one decent QB ready to fill in - I think Feeley can do just as well as Garcia did, but what happens if Feeley goes down in those early games? Silly move on the Eagle's part - they could've probably gotten Garcia since he's not going to be a starter anywhere else (I can't see him latching on with a bad team just to be a starter - he got a taste of that with Detroit and Cleveland already). If the reports are true, he's looking at Denver where he'll be carrying a clipboard for Cutler. I'm sure he would've liked Philly over that but the Birds never offered. They must really feel that McNabb will certainly be back or they are really gambling when gambling wasn't really necessary.

I'd rather have Donte Stallworth signed than Garcia.

And two points above are very good, in that if McNabb isn't ready to go for the first quarter of the season, and Feely is playing, then what if Feely gets hurt during that time???? Who is the 3rd QB? Koy Boy?? Ugghhh.

I agree, unless McNabb isn't ready to go in the opener, the bigger issue is Stallworth. I know he's injury prone but I don't see, even with the home grown guys getting better, that there's a better alternative out there. Brown can certainly play, but there's too much of a drop off after him to get to Baskett, Lewis, and geez, who else, Avant? They obviously aren't going to draft an impact WR, assuming that other than the kid from GA Tech there was even one out there, so why part ways with Stallworth? Even if he's only good for 9 or 10 games, I'd take that and hope he's with you come playoff time, when it will be important to have the WR's (you can get through the regular season without a competent bunch - heck, the Eagle's did that for years - the playoffs is where it catches up to you).
