SMU was hit with an NCAA 'death penalty' for numerous, serious, recurring violations (at least some of them booster-related), dropped the program, and restarted it a couple of years later.

In the words of Charlie Brown, "Don't you know sarcasm when you hear it?"
Sorry for not knowing when Georgia Southern started football. Baldy, it's time I receive a history lesson :bang:

Well, I was really just asking, not trying to be a smartass. They are pehaps the most famous program to have started since 1980. I thought maybe there could be a few more between 1980 and 1985 as well.

Seriously, do you ever have anything constructive to say?? This is at least 3 posts I have found in 10 minutes that have nothing to do with the topic at hand, just taking a shot at Texas State. In case you didn't notice there is 2 threads on the smack board for trash talking between us. Be a man and grow up a little. :spank:

I was going to admit that yes, sometimes I have trouble recognizing sarcasm on message boards, but then
Well, I was really just asking, not trying to be a smartass so I guess the younger posters may not remember when it seemed like six teams in the old Southwest Conference were on NCAA probation at the same time.

Why don't you lighten up a little bit. Everyone on this board takes a shot at a rival school from within their conference if the opportunity is there. Stop your whining!

Add Samford to that list, too.
Football started, I think, in 1984 or 1985.

You're right, but they started as a DIII school before moving to I-AA in the late 80's and later making the I-AA Playoffs under Terry Bowden.
