The only wild card in the schedule is Hampton. The Pirates, who have been MEAC title contenders in recent years, in November announced a move to the Big South, to be completed in July. A source in FAMU's athletic department said the Pirates are looking to immediately drop their MEAC schedule.

My guess would be there is some type of monetary penalty. Hampton had been a pain in the arse of the MEAC for some time and many members were ready for them and pain in the arse number 2 aka Delaware State to kick rocks.

They can do it as we've been rotating two teams off the schedule since SSU joined. It's possible they could do it especially since a exit fee has to be negotiated between Hampton and the MEAC Co-Ceo's. There isn't a set exit fee in the by-laws.

HU should have been told the move will take effect 7/1/2019

When VMI went from SoCon to Big South (and vice versa), the announcements were done about 17-18 months before the switch actually happened....so no disaster of Conf. scheduling....

The locals show pretty well. It has been the locals which have carried attendance the last 4 years with the D2 matchup. Howard has a nice "Big Game" fan base. The Bison fans show up for big Classics not sure about BCU though.

I hope the other bison faithful are more faithful than I am. I attend a (H) game once every 2 or so years on Ga Ave. Naturally, my focus is on helping right the historical wrongs of the undergrad PV. I did the CCC while attending State@gradSch and living in the CMH. I think that was a JSU/FAMU get together and it was paaaaaaaaaaacked > 57K+, if memory serves correct. I'm sure Hampton will miss the MEAC a lot more than the other way around. This internally at Hampton aren't looking the best right now. Hampton alums are less that excited about this move to the Big South.

If so could you see a situation like that happening with some of the struggling MEAC schools being forced into their state system schools or the SWAC for that matter since the state of Louisiana has reduced their contributions to universities especially the HBCU's?? Here in PA the oldest HBCU Cheyney University just withdrew from the PSAC conference (D2) as well as from the NCAA due to financial restraints in order to preserve keeping the doors open.

Grambling State University has something not too many FCS'ers have: an actual brand with importance. Cannot deny that.

Cannot argue w/ you there as the last 40 or so years has shown that their draw has negatively plummeted, especially when the first ever losing trend started w/ their brand. That overall legacy though... When the "G" comes to town, there are still quite a few who are interested in that national brand, which rivals even quite a few large D-I FBSers in notoriety.
