Seriously, does anyone know what he's up to these days? All this fear of the Phillies trading Ryan Howard got me thinking about the most lopsided trade of the Bill Giles era!

Speaking of Bill Giles, I don't seem to recall all the fans exhibiting as much rancor toward him or his GM's like they are throwing at Dave Montgomery and his boy Wade. Does anyone else find this true, or is it just selective amnesia on my part?

Not Quite "Where Have You Gone, Joe DiMaggio", eh? Matter of fact, I'd say it's the exact opposite of ol' Joe, Von the outfielder averaging 15 home runs a year, not quite achieving .300, although he did lead the league in runs scored in 1986 (which means - he had some pretty good teammates). If you had him as a 1B in your rotisserie league you were in trouble.

Every fan wants to excoriate their GM for making bad moves - as a Red Sox fan Dan Duquette was basically strung from the rooftops on a daily basis in the late '90s. But nobody gave ol' Dan credit for one of the steals of the century - RP Heathcliff Slocumb for C Jason Varitek AND SP Derek Lowe.

That's funny, but I don't think he ever played with those guys. I think it's more likely he's drinking with Sixto Lezcano and Steve Jeltz!

Nice Sixto Lezcano reference!

Also, note that noone to my knowledge has ever seen Von Hayes and Ivan Lendl in the same room together.

Who did he take over for, Maddox (I think)?

The ageless wonder. Who would have ever thought a 47 year old dinosaur could be an effective MLB player? .272 Avg. 7 dingers (1 Grand Slam) & 29 RBI in only 36 starts and 28 pinch hit opportunities this season.
Poor Ricky Henderson.... :(

47, my arse. He has to be at least 50 now! But still hits, particularly against the Phils.
