Supposedly the JMU fans at the championship hosed themselves by throwing streamers on the field area and into the YSU sideline area. They might not have been banned if they kept the streamers in the stands and maybe on the JMU sideline.

I think part of the problem is that it is just plain disrespectful to throw streamers all over the opposing team and its fans. What fans of a opposing team want to be covered in these things, and even worse is the fact that it happens to players of a opposing team on their sidelines. IF this is what happened, there is the problem. Do it all you want in your sections of the stadium and throw them all over your team. It is also one thing to do it at your own stadium, but quite a different deal to do it at someone else's place or a neutral site. If I had people throwing stuff all over me I can assure you I am not going to be happy about it.

Agreed. I think there were 3,000 Youngstown fans in attendance so the remaining were all streamer toting Dukes fans. I think the story of opposing fans and YSU Team being subjected to streamers is a bit overly dramatized and that the real issue was the cleanup of 14,000 paper tossing fanatics... likely a slip/fall risk in the walkways when paper meets spilled bevs. It has never been the customary celebration of Dukes fans to pelt the opposing fan base with streamers. I challenge anyone to throw an unrolling streamer more than 20 feet with any accuracy. You’ll see them fly as the team takes the field and a few after a touchdown. The remaining were thrown in celebration at the end of the game.

It's a unit of measurement used to describe the amount of crepe paper a JMU fan uses to shower the field, opposing fans and camera men with. For example: "The camera man's lawsuit was filed based upon the crate paper used by the Bulldog fans."

There was a mix of YSU and JMU tailgaters in the lot. I stayed well after the game and thought the parking lot was pretty clean. I tend to shy away from he said/she said types of arguments and work hard to be a rational fan (oxymoron, I know), but I'll give it a bit of a go here.
I think the streamers are hokey; I was at JMU when this thing got started in the '80s (not the 70s as the WaPo states) with toilet paper. It really was kind of a novelty then and the fan base at some point found an alternative. Good on 'em.
I agree that the 'originator' is being foolish, and ignoring the obvious, by deflecting blame onto NDSU. Our fans brought this on themselves in Frisco last year. Throwing them onto the sidelines, especially the YSU sidelines was not good. From my seat in Frisco, I didn't believe they were throwing them 'at' YSU players, but streamers + breeze = unintended consequences. The did, however, use the ESPN cameraman as a target -- much like we used to use the golf ball collection driver as target practice on the driving range back in the day -- and they kept throwing them after being asked to stop. I was surprised the officials didn't penalize JMU last year - thought they should have done so.
I essentially got chased from the JMU Nation Facebook group for expressing this opinion last month. I also the gall to suggest that our fan base had created a somewhat negative public image nationally in the FCS community because of some of the our behaviors.
What I think you are mis-characterizing is the ADs position. The relevant portion of the article is the quote from the AD that boils down to: I wasn't asked or given the opportunity to discuss the ban or alternatives before the NCAA made the decision; from my perspective they'd made up their minds. They were driving the train on this and had bypassed the station for discussion.
My take is that he knew about the decision in the fall, saw it was a done deal and accepted the decision. I believe that is different than signing off on the decision. I can't count the number of times in my professional life when a higher headquarters made a decision I knew my organization would believe to be crappy and counter-productive; we didn't get asked for input in advance even though we were major stakeholders but had to suck it down anyway. My job as the boss was to make the troops believe it was my idea to take on that particular mission. It's where the acronym BOHICA comes from for the Army (Bend Over, Here It Comes Again, for the uninitiated).
Eventually, I hope, rationality will set in and the fans will realize the team can win with or without flying crepe paper (even if it does create a nice visual spectacle for TV).
P.S. I'm surprised the WaPo even spent ink on JMU anything...we're usually nothing more than agate scoreboard material for their sports section.

P.S. I'm surprised the WaPo even spent ink on JMU anything...we're usually nothing more than agate scoreboard material for their sports section.
xpeacexA rational response is something I greatly enjoy. I would say by just ignoring it and not saying something is as good as agreeing to it. If he would have spoken up earlier, I think he could have argued that he tried but he did not. It is a thin line and i have worked corporate world as well that if I did not try and speak it was assumed that I agreed with it.
Personally I do not care about the streamers and have said that before but all it takes is one bad apple to ruin a bunch. Covering the camera guy looks really bad on ESPN and I can see why the ncaa would not want something like that on national tv.
At least you will know what to do with your hands. Haha

There were no issues the first 5 years but apparently the fun police had to show up this year. xrolleyesx

We can blame JMU/YSU dbags for that too. Bison miss the chipper one year and place goes to hell. This is why we can't have nice things!xlolx

Why go to El Forko voluntarily? Eff that!To wear the green and gold when the Bison are forced to play in the dump known as the Alerus Center

Everything you never wanted to know about streamers and the streamer controversy.
according to this, the tradition started as fans throwing tp ONTO THE COURT at basketball games.
in the stands is one thing, but throwing it onto the court during the game is idiotic.

So what are the results and more importantly what did I win?

I'm not sure my students (nor my own kids) would necessarily agree. I did have one student who just graduated last spring stop by on Friday -- she actually brought me a sock snowman and apologized for being a 'less than engaged' student as a senior.
Great game today for the Bison. Congratulations on #6. Hope we'll be back again soon -- lots of holes to fill.

They got to throw them once, but I saw exactly why they are banned.
They trash the place. JMU fans laid their own bed with those, not cleaning up etc.

How did that call go for them? The Valley News Live video (https://www.facebook.com/ValleyNewsLive/videos/10155413121077326/) (Fargo news station) of the fans in the parking lot arguing with stadium workers is pretty amusing.
The thing that looks so bad in this video is the very fact that once the fans are told that they are not allowed to set up ATM or for the night, they actually sit there and try to change the minds of the people in security. I can completely understand the point the tailgater is trying to make, but no matter what he is going to say, it does not change the rules. And to sit there and try to argue with them is just stupid.

I did my part as we were leaving the stadium. I picked up a handful and happily threw it in the trash.

I can't find it on there forum (saw it yesterday), but you gotta love how they turned on each other about leaving a mess out in the tailgate lots.
