Agree on Houston. He should have won it last year though, instead of keeler, but that dispute was settled on the field :)
kind of strange that Jay Hill is not on this list at all.

Oh cry me a river.
APSU finished 0-11 last season and finished 8-4. Broadway went 9-3 last season and now has the chance for a 12-0. I'd take a +8 season for an abysmal program in a coaches's 2nd year vs an established coach.

Good lord, so now it's Celebration Bowl instead of FCS playoffs because "we'll never earn their respect no matter what we accomplish".
Bull**** excuse is bull****. Accomplish something in the FCS playoffs and you'll get your respect. I'm pretty sure Kennesaw St earned a hell of a lot more respect going into next year than they had at the beginning of this past year. Or go the Celebration Bowl route because it makes you more money but then don't cry about not getting any respect when you actively choose to not participate on the highest competitive stage available to you.

I am not seeing NC A&T as a "lower resource" school......if A&T can get 20K to go to Atlanta, why can't those folks, and hundreds more, give $$ to the Athletic General Fund?

The coach who went undefeated in FBS got coach of the year.
Guess you all forgot about the 2nd longest losing streak in FCS history before Broadway arrived in Greensboro. Won a conference title in 3 years. Complaint is valid in my eyes.
For London not even to be mentioned after the 1 yr turn at Howard is criminal

Our entire athletic budget is 12.5 million. JMU puts 9 million into football.

You forgot the part where UCF was 0-12 before Frost got there and he's only in his second year.
Will Healy took APSU from 0-11 to 8-4.
Thats a lot more impressive than going from 9-3 to 12-0.
NCAT was a good team last year whereas Austin Peay was a DUMPSTER FIRE.
Also, your athletic budget is almost as big as ours, cry me a river.

Beats us...12.2m total athletics budget (3.3m for football) and we're competing favorably in the toughest FCS conference.

If you want to win a national award you have to do something on a national level. The reason they don't go to the playoffs has nothing to do with respect, it has all to with getting smoked by better teams. So go hide in your little cocoon while other teams duke it out for a national championship.

So what about the saying that most coaches have. "It is harder to stay at the top than it is to get there". Some coach bringing a team in a struggling conference to 8-4 against competition where all but two opponents struggled to finish no better than 500%. I'll take a coach (JMU or NDSU) who can keep a team at the very top against the toughest competition where every team is gunning for you over that guy who won.

Chattanooga had pretty sustained success and fell off the map pretty quick after Healy left. Just sayin'.
So far we don't know how well Healy will be able to keep the ball rolling.

So past performance should be in consideration to award top players and coaches of the current season? BTW: Austin Peay didn't play in the playoffs either.

That’s BS...a player like Tarik Cohen should’ve gotten consideration last season. Regardless of what the MEAC had done in the playoffs, it’s BS not consider a talent like his...especially looking at how he’s progressed in the NFL.
so A&T has a gripe...to an extent

Exactly! Next year will be the same when it's Lamar Raynard's turn for the national accolades.

Just create a Black Player of the Year Award...nevermind, no one from the MEAC or SWAC would end up winning that one either...
By removing yourself from the playoffs you remove yourself from a large part of the national picture. The Ivies have the same issue.
PVAM coach won the Eddie Robinson award in 2009. No MEAC coach has ever won it. No Ivy coach has ever won it.
AFCA coach of the year went to Columbia in 1996. No MEAC or SWAC coach has ever won it.
Seems like national accolades went fine for the MEAC and SWAC. I don't ever recall an OL being a finalist like Parker. 3 Payton finalists between the Celebration Bowl teams. Grambling and SC State both had Buchanan finalists. McCain from NCAT up for the Rice Award. Broadway, London and McNair all Robinson finalists this year. So what's the complaint again?

Respect is earned by beating good teams. The combined record of the MEAC and SWAC last season for OOC was 22-48. In fairness, you have to look at some of those 48 losses as FBS money games, but you also have to look at a dozen D2 games. I didn't have the energy to see if any were inter-conference games (but that would be even numbers 1-1 anyway). Every now and again the Celebration Bowl teams could be competitive against the rest of the FCS (A&T this year), but typically they just couldn't compete against playoff caliber teams.
