In what many feared could be a 'trap' match, with #1 Penn State looming on Sunday, Lehigh won 6 of 10 bouts and three with bonus points to beat the Tigers in Jadwin Gym.
Defending NCAA Champ Cruz WMD 18-6, after being taken down in the first 20 seconds. #3 Scott Parker got his third fall in a row with a cradle at 3:23. Freshman Luke Karam was stellar in a 7-0 decision. Unranked Courtland Schuyler gave #4 Kolodzik a good battle at 149, but lost 2-4. Brown at 157 was beaten 6-17 and Gordy Wolf lost a wild one to #20 Schleifer at 165, 12-19. #4 Kutler at 174 had a WTF, 16-1 at 6:30. Ryan Preisch continued his winning streak with a solid WMD, 11-1 at 184. Freshman Weiler failed to hold a lead in the third, getting nipped, 7-8, and at 285, Soph. Collucci wrestled for Wood who had been battling a bad cold this week. Collucci winning 6-3.
Now Armegeddon awaits Sunday afternoon as the #1 Nittany Lions travel to the Lehigh Valley to take on the Mountain Hawks in the new PPL Center in downtown Allentown, PA, about four miles from Lehigh's campus. All seats have been sold since early November. Will be on streaming via Lehigh website. Service Electric cable TV2 in the eastern PA region will televise live. Match starts at 2 p.m. EST.
