I used to live in the Charlotte metro area (in Rock Hill, less than 20 miles away, got the Charlotte paper, etc). No one really cared about Charlotte athletics, and I don't see why they would start now.

They're on CSNBBS and they show up preseason and then again in basketball season. But they're sparse.

Why would you start a program from scratch, and instead of developing it at the FCS level just damn the torpedo and go full speed ahead to FBS?

UNCC was a long-time member of C-USA and was eventually kicked out for not having a football team. They were obviously very eager to get back in. The only reason they ever played in FCS was that the NCAA forced them.
Historically, start-up programs that move to FBS do so very quickly. Georgia State and FIU never accomplished anything in I-AA before jumping. FAU had a semifinal appearance and immediately jumped. ODU appeared to build a successful FCS program quickly but hasn't done much since their move.

I suspect UNCC would be about as successful in FCS as they are in C-USA.

UNCC made the decision to go CUSA before the conference got hit with realignment. The TV money probably looked a lot better before the AAC ravaged them.

I liked it when the 49er fans and App State fans went at each other. ASU fans calling them UNC-Ceeeeeeeeeeeeeee, and 49er fans with the Tweetsie smack.
