Good for Hildebrand. He was consistent and dynamic. I would replace Davion Davis with Nathan Stewart for Offensive Player of the Year. Other than that, it was good. Some of our freshman DBs will be on this list in the next few years.

Let's look at the head to head with similar competition: (The Cowboys did GREAT against SLC competition)

Points given up:
SLU: McNeese- 3 UCA-6
NWST: McNeese- 24 UCA-17
ACU: McNeese- 7 UCA-0
IUW: McNeese- 7 UCA-10
Lamar: McNeese- 3 UCA 14 (Dang that last quarter third string TD xlolx )
HBU: McNeese- 12 UCA 7
SFA: McNeese- 0 UCA - 20 (for some reason every year SFA got our number..similar to SHSU and SFA in BOTPW)

But I guess the most telling is the actual head to head against each other! Yes, it's one game but it was the only ranked opponent you played.
From what I remember in that game UCA allowed McNeese to move between the 20s but wouldn't allow them to score in the redzone much.

McNeese defense points allowed: 47
UCA defense points allowed: 17

UCA passes: 12 of 16 averaging 21 yards per catch and 4 TDs.
McNeese passes: 16 of 35 averaging 13 yards per catch and 1 TD.
Not so great pass defense for McNeese.

UCA Rushes: 35 attempts for 75 yards.
McNeese Rushes: 40 attempts for 206 yards.
Great rush defense though!


Conclusion: It is difficult to say McNeese has a better defense because of the extremely weak schedule they played as compared to UCAs. If you also look at the individuals on each team on defense on the SLC website you will find UCA has multiple players ranked ahead of McNeese in nearly every category. But again, the biggest factors I see that seperate the two defenses are:
1. Strength of opponents. UCA played far above McNeese in that category.
2. Common opponents and head to head. UCA's defense scored in every quarter (12 poins per quarter) against McNeese and McNeese only scored one TD after the first quarter. That's defense.

I would really like to see which SLC team had the best defense using both team and individual stats...but I have to work on something today...xlolx
