DOVER -- Jamal Jones won't be alone when he gets a fresh start in college football this fall at Delaware State.
The Hornets, in their second season under coach Al Lavan, have added six transfers from NCAA Division I-A schools who will become immediately eligible at DSU, a I-AA school. Preseason practice opens Aug. 6.

This will make the Delaware State at JMU game on September 17, 2005 more interesting.

And to honestly answer your question, Delaware HS's do produce some talent, but very litlle at the 1-AA level. They are small & kinda pale in comparison to neighboring PA.

Truth is Delaware's population is less than Baltimore County MD. There is talent and more talent than you would expect from a population of 750,000 but not enough to support a quality D-II program (forget 2 I-AAs and a decent D-III).
The other problem is lack of spring football practice which is a staple down south. The reason Lacrosse has taken off as a high school sport in Delaware is that the high school football coaches like it as a means to keep their players running and hitting during the spring.

Why is there no spring practice? Is it due to Lacrosse? Man, that must suck. Spring football gives us our fix until September.

Not many states, at keast in the northern half have spring practice anymore, PA, OH & DE all don't have it.
