I know they like to be called 'Charlotte', but lots of people still think of them as UNC-Charlotte...best of luck!

Seems like a natural if they could get an on campus stadium.

Be prepared for plenty of scared App fans to post here about how it's not possible and a waste of time.

Here we go again. Why am I not surprised to see AGS's favorite troll immediately trying to turn this into a smack contest?

We have discussed this issue almost as ad nauseum as we have San Diego on this board. No one has said it is a waste of time. If Charlotte wants to start football fine. But it ISN'T going to be happening anytime soon and don't expect the 49ers to be particularly successful even if they overcome the huge financial obstacles needed to even field a team. As far as App State fans "being scared" of a new program at UNCC, why would they be? ASU has won back-to-back national championships and is going head to head with schools like Clemson for talent. The Mountaineers are not going to be bothered by some upstart program. Also ASU is a better academic institution by far than UNCC and is in a gorgious mountain location. ASU draws more applications than any other school in the UNC system other than UNC-Chapel Hill and North Carolina State from what I've been told. ASU has nothing to fear from UNCC. There is plenty of talent in the Charlotte high schools to go around and a new football team (though I really never expect to see it at UNCC) would just give more kids the opportunity to play in college. Good luck to the 49ers. They will need it to pull off a football program.

Because you say so?

Based on that, I'd say Charlotte is the better school.

What is that suppose to prove? All I saw was some meaningless numbers. Is that how you picked your school? For someone who lives a couple of thousand miles away, you sure are an expert on stuff that goes on in other people's backyards. Ask most people in North Carolina and they will tell you ASU is a better school than UNCC. By the way, did you hear about the attack that occured at UNCC a few days ago? Don't see much of that type of stuff going on here in Boone, while it's a regular part of life in Charlotte.

One of the reasons Montana gave for not playing ASU was that remoteness that Boonies love. So being remote is not all it's cracked up to be. :twocents:

Of course!

What could be more objective than asking "most people" in NC if ASU is better than UC?

Appalachian State is HOT HOT HOT!

Seems like Charlotte, outside of their faculty to student ratio plays second fiddle to the home of the back to back NCAA Division I football champions...:read:

Those stats aren't that far apart from each other. UNCC is considered a research university i believe and that generally holds more academic prestige. Regardless, both schools are good.

Which the Carnegie Classifications confirm.

Thats a little misleading, Charlottes research university status is obtained by paying professionals (from the triad area) to do research at the new research park. I don't think any of these are UNCC students.

I love how people outside of North Carolina make these arguments for or against certain schools based on numbers in a magazine. They fail to take into consideration the perception of the school inside the state, and the type of alum that each school produces.
