all i'm going to hear all week is how the Ticks want revenge for last year. they don't think we want revenge for 2015 Gameday? I promise you that if we win, you'll hear that game mentioned in the postgame presser. remember, that was the first time we ever saw Schor, after Vad's injury.

it's also the last team we faced in 2016 before we figured out the new defensive scheme. everyone widely recognizes the D came together the next week against Villanova after Schor was injured.

bring it on.

9 years from now RU will be wanting revenge for the last 10 years of losses, but they probably still won't admit to being over-matched.

the 20 point spread is absurd. i can only think of 2 times when this game was decided by that wide a margin (both jmu wins in 2011 and 2014). I'll be shocked if we win on saturday, and equally shocked if jmu covers.

yeah, kinda. Theyve been more consistantly good over the last decade (in the regular season before last year), and we beat them a couple of times in our lean years when we had no business doing so. e.g. 2012 they were #2 and we were unranked, and we hammered them. They had a furious 4th quarter rally that fell just short, but it was a beating for 3 quarters. We lost the following two years, including an absolute pounding at home in 2014, then the last two years have been pretty evenly matched.

(i'm really surprised at how quiet this threat is)

2005?

2010.

It was an ugly 7 combined turnover game, with Richmond winning 13-10 in OT. JMU turned it over 3 times, Richmond turned it over 4 times.

it's the only such game since at least 2003, which is as far back as I could look.

It was and I heartily disagree with Matthew. 13-10 OT games are plenty exciting in this series as well. As I recall the game was won when Tyler Sullivan clipped Dudzik for a sack for a huge loss ... like 20 yards ... in OT.

So many JMU v Richmond memories for me.

Highlights...

2007, Country Howell pick late to preserve the win in Hburg ... or was that 2005. I know we won up there for both and I was pretty hammered both times.

2009 ... Parker strips Thorpe when Dukes were going in late.

2010 was actually that OT game with the Sullivan sack. I think this was also the game where JMU fans flipped off Jeff Durden in the Press Box...?

2012... We sort of announce that we are BACK after the Latrell Scott debacle by boat racing the Dukes at our place. Michael Birdsong pulls Dukes back in it late.

2015 ... Gameday ... enough said.

Lowlights

2006 ... Mickey thoroughly outcoached Clawson using stiff wind going one way to Dukes advantage early ... and late.

2008 ... Scotty McGee. Will say this was the best game of the series. Very high level of play om both sides.

2011. We got dumped up in the Burg in the cold rain. Aaron Corp got sacked 47 times.

2014. We got humiliated in our house. Horrible performance.

2016. Our D can't het off the field all day. We lose and Rocco packs his bags. JMU wins and revs up for a Natty.

This is a great series. I'm looking forward to the trip Satutday.

First season but not first game. First game was again Elon. OT win for us. Or do you mean first game against JMU? Because yeah.

Big House, I believe the sack was on 3rd, forcing something like a 4th & 27. And yeah that was an exciting play. Overall I thought it was tough to watch. Obviously losing would've been much worse

no presser for Houston this week, but here are some nuggets from his interview with the local radio guy. he mentioned that:

*Richmond is the best offense we will have seen all year
*Lauletta is the best QB we will have seen all year
*this is the deepest receiving corps we will have seen (paraphrasing here)
*JMU has sustained more injuries than any team he's ever coached
*the Richmond offense has some similarities to what they ran at Chatty, but it's different because of the differing strengths of Jacob Huesman and Lauletta

Agreed with this. Also, JMU's ability to score consistently and limit the # of possession/opportunities Richmond has will be key. It will turn interesting if JMU struggles to score early and Richmond has early success on Offense. Game will be much closer than anticipated

Lauletta is a serious threat and will be difficult. JMU hasn't faced a passing offense that good all season, but UNH is no slouch. JMU completely took Knight and O'Connor out of the game.

On the Season
Trevor Knight - 189-308, 22 TD, 2447 Yards
Neil O'Connor - 70 Rec., 10 TD, 1129 Yards

Against JMU
Trevor Knight - 10-25, 0 TD, 136 Yards
Neil O-Connor - 3 Rec., 58 Yards, 0 TD

Yeah, 2015 we played no defense against anyone. Our defense was a work in progress last year, which didn't gel until the Nova game the week after the UR game.

I give Lauletta all the credit in the world, he should be the CAA POY without question. But, this is a different JMU defense and he won't approach those numbers again.

Lauletta talked in the presser about having a game like in 2015 with 400 passing and 300 rushing. Maybe do some drugtests on the poor guy because I'd like some of what he's smoking if he thinks he's getting anything near those numbers.

It would be more than double what we've allowed on average all year. The most we've allowed to one team was ECU (292 passing yds). They're ranked 17th in FBS for passing with 308 yards per game.

i know it's a lot, and maybe i'm delusional. lauletta doesn't have a favorite target and we have 3 guys who would be WR1 on most teams. just think we'll go 3-4 wide (plus TE) a lot, and he will find whoever is open. fwiw lauletta has the 3rd most yards in all of college football.

He definitely will. But more than half of that will be in the last 10 minutes of the game as he's trying to overcome the 30 point deficit you all will be experiencing. And he'll have a fumble or INT for every hundred yards he throws for.

His stats will be: 22/50 for 310 yards, 2 INTs, 4 sacks, 12 yards rushing on 12 carries, 1 fumble, 1 bruised ego.

haha... on the 300 yard stuff, I don't think it's totally impossible because I think he's going to end up attempting 50+ passes. so who knows. that's more likely than him throwing 3 TDs, which someone predicted. that would be incredible as it would match how many passing TDs we've allowed all season. don't forget that the ball should be super slick with temps dipping below freezing by the end of the game. that could be trouble with our pass rush and DBs that feast on tipped balls.

Lauletta is going to have to pick up the pace if he's going to get 300. I'm thinking under....

Starting to think we should have just done a o/u for sacks instead.

Those PI calls were criminal. Holy ****
I don’t think I’ve seen a defensive play from UR yet that wasn’t borderline P.I. Including 4 or 5 where they went over the top of the receiver. Need a new DB coach.

In typical UR fashion, baiting to get the unsportsmanlike conduct call for yardage.

Tie game....

Defenses appear stingy

Meh, an unsportsmanlike call is all on that individual player imo. Just dont fall for the bait.

Another great game in the series -- shame our D didn't come together until late in the season or I have little doubt we would be in the PO again. Still have some to play for next week against the Tribe. Good Luck to the Dukes, losing 23 Seniors will have to hurt, go out and win another one this year.

A W is all that counts. An ugly win is better than an ugly loss like we had last week. Congrats to the dukes.

Sure hope so. Would like to see Schor and the offense display they are playoff ready.

Who's doubting your defense? If someone is they need their head examined.

Your offense however....

That said you know what they say about what wins championships.

Great anecdotally, but empirically not necessarily true.

I am not really sure who 'doubted' the JMU D. Lauletta did go for over 300 so Matt gets his cookie. Had Lauletta hit on one of those deep crosses to Simpson, it would have been a good bit more than 300.

Good game and good luck Dukes.

Have you guys been throwing the ball to #19 every play all year or was that a JMU game thing?

Wilkens got a heavier load than usual because Brissett got hurt on the first drive of the game.

Lauletta got over 300 only because they let him get that last pass off after time had expired. ;)

Seriously, though. I've seen UR a few times this year, and they have improved tremendously. I think it took a while for Heuseman and staff to get settled in, but it came a bit too late. It's too bad they won't be in the playoffs, because they could do some damage...I know I wouldn't want JMU to face them again. That was obviously JMU's toughest game this season.

Brissett got injured early, Simpson did not have his best game, you were shutting off passes to the RB's and TE's most of the game. Wilkins is a great WR, I don't think he gets the recognition he deserves.

Thanks for the props, some of our fans feel as few as four plays this season could have made a major difference. JMU is VERY good this year. Good luck, win another, and we'll get you next year.

I think some took exception to the early year stuff about how great Villanova's and Delaware's defenses are. Just a guess.

By the way, this is the first game we haven't won by double digits since.... last year's Richmond game. Streak of 15 straight has now been broken.

The Richmond defense has come a long way this season. Just not quite able to make the big plays. JMU is damn good.
