The Baltimore Sun reported the O's are close to a deal with the Marlins that would bring A.J. Burnett and Mike Lowell to Baltimore.....If this pans out, Baltimore will be a serious threat

If that is true, then that could put some life back into the Orioles. I wonder who the Marlins would get in that deal. They aren't exactly dead and buried in the East or the Wild Card race.

Even with the addition of Burnett, The O's starting 5 is still no where ner what the White Sox have, BUT Burnett would give the O's the best staff in the EAST IMO!!! I heard the WHite Sox dropped out of the Burnett sweepstakes because Florida was pushing Lowell on them and the Sox did not want Lowell!!

It's all rumor at this point......but it looks like Burnett & Lowell are a package deal.

The Sun said the O's were trying to deal Bigbie & the young pitching prospect Hayden Penn.

I would think that the fish will still have to pay a lot of Lowell's salary to unload him.

What I have read is Julio, Penn, and Bigbie, to Florida for Burnett and Lowell. 2 other things have to be done...FLorida has to pay the majority of Lowells salary and Burnett has to be signable to a long term deal in Baltimore. I really do not understand the need for AJ Burnett, his career record is under .500 and has only thrown for over 200 innings once.

With the exception of Bedard, the O's pitching staff is seriously lacking. IMO, dealing for A.J. Burnett is definitely a move in the right direction....I'm not all that excited about Lowell tagging along

It's this little thing called talent, and Burnett has a vey big upside. He's also better than any pitcher the Orioles currently have, and he's 28 years old and could hit his prime in an Orioles uniform. I mean, even in the midst of a unspectacular season, he's 5-6, but has a 3.64 ERA, and most pitchers sitting at 5-6 would have an ERA over 4. Plus, as I said, it's the upside. He's a talent.

Take a pitcher from the NL East with these numbers, put him in the AL East, make him pitch half his games in Camden Yards, and watch his ERA balloon to something well over 4.00.

Are you kidding, that's a freakin' steal!!!! The Phillies traded FIVE guys for Von Hayes. You may have heard of one or two of the guys...
Manny Trillo, George Vukovich, Julio Franco, Jay Baller and Jerry Williard!
That's right, All-Star Manny Trillo and future All-Star Julio Franco!
C'mon, there's no way the O's could screw up a trade as badly as the Phillies!
Wait a sec, there's another thread in this rant....
