Don't know if this has been posted.....

In the FCS conference race, the Southwestern Athletic Conference returned to the top spot with 15,561 fans per game, almost 3,000 more per game than the Southern Conference, which snapped the SWAC’s 27-year grip on the title in 2005. The rest of the top five were the Mid-Eastern (11,997), Big Sky (10,712) and Gateway (10,615).

I posted that on the SWAC board.
Montana’s attendance total of 203,403 was the most of any Division I FCS team. The Grizzlies’ average of 22,600 fans per game edged Delaware’s 21,825.

Three conferences — the Big South, Great West and Northeast — had personal highs for total attendance. Those three also topped their average bests, as did the Gateway.

considering the size of many of the SoCon schools, #2 is pretty solid.

WCU and UTC were as much to blame as anyone, probably more so when you consider how much larger they are.

Shows how much of an idiot I am. I actually thought citdog was complimenting some teams.

Guess I'm a glass half-full guy.

Or at least not that cynical.

CitDog is mad because Elon fans didn't come out to see us play them this year. Big frickin' deal. But hey, I guess we would make football attendance mandatory too.

I think one of the real benefits the SWAC has for attendance are those big "neutral"-site games. Wonder what true average home attendance is for the SWAC.

EDIT: I figured it out:

SWAC average attendance (minus special games) = 110,146

Wow, those must be big stadiums!:eyebrow:

Using numbers from http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/2006/Internet/attendance/IAA_AVGATTENDANCE.pdf
I figured it at 10,903. But I'd presume if the neutral-site games were held at home stadiums they'd draw a much higher-than-average crowd.

That is the average attendance for the conference as a whole.

... I'd presume if the neutral-site games were held at home stadiums they'd draw a much higher-than-average crowd. That's the reason a bunch of them are not held at the home stadiums, not enough capacity.

 That's the reason a bunch of them are not held at the home stadiums, not enough capacity.

Yep.
2nd reason is that the majority of the places that these Netural Site games are played has a huge fan base for the teams playing.

EX: Soilder field in Chicago or Detroit.
Chicago is huge for JSU and Detroit is HUGE for Bamma St.
The same with the Liberty Bowl's SHC with JSU/TENNESSEE ST.

Most SWAC stadiums average between 20 to 25,000 capicity.
Tx. Southern has the smallest at 5,000.

JSU Memorial Stadium 60,500
SU Mumford 24,000 (expanding)
Alcorn Jack Spinks 22,500
Bamma St. Crampton Bowl 22,000
Bamma A@M Lewis Crewes 21,000
GRAM Robinson 20,000? or more
UAPB Golden Lion 13,972
Valley Rice/Totten 10,000
P. View Blackshear ?
Tx. Southern ? 5,000

Future home of the Tigers. (http://www.facilityplanners.com/portfolio/jackson_state_u/stadium05/default.aspx?s=p)

Update on funding and planning.
Mississippi state Rep. John Reeves, R-Jackson, said this week he's confident a proposal for a new on-campus JSU football stadium will pass through the House sometime in the next month and a half.

"It's time we did this and the support is there," Reeves said. "That, combined with a new medical research park for (University of Mississippi Medical Center) would be the single biggest development in Jackson's history."

Reeves said the latest calculations he's received call for an approximately 40,000-seat stadium that will cost about $50 million.

Reeves said that money includes land acquisition fees, road improvements and parking.

The preliminary location of the stadium has been reported to be from Terry Road and Gallatin Street to Lynch Street next to JSU's campus.

On top of the $50 million for construction, Reeves said it would cost about $5.4 million to tear down Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, a structure that recently received a $15 million facelift.

"I just think it's best for JSU and best for the city," Reeves said. "We're ready to move forward."

BTW: The City and State just handed over a shat load of land to JSU near the downtown area to develope into housing, retail, etc.
This free's JSU up this time. We don't have to buy out anyone.

The part in red up there represent's that land.
I'm trying to find that article because it all go together.

I have a love-hate relationship with this stadium, I am proud of what we are doing to KBS, but I wish we were building a 40k+ stadium that looked that nice congratufreackinlations.
