At this point in the season, when you lose and win is also a factor in the rankings. If you keep on winning, you'll gain a 'multiplier' effect.

UTM was where the Peay was at the start of the century, and it took a 9 win season to sniff the rankings, so I know how they feel. UTM is still ranked in the stats poll, after beating a bad UTC and a bad TSU, then losing to an APSU that is now on par talent wise with UTM, is not what I expected, of the 3-2 OVC's I would definitely give the nod to the Peay......

I think your convincing win over the coastal dogs could be how some would justify/argue for y'all being slightly higher. What was clear last weekend was we were very evenly matched teams at that point. (I'd say we still are.)

Just wait until Citdog sees that this poll says "Citadel" instead of The Citadel. I might hear his head explode from Minneapolis.

The logic of Western Carolina, which beat Samford, being behind Samford. Then The Citadel getting whooped by Samford ahead of both WCU and Samfordxconfusedx

Yeah I hear you. In mine I have it WCU, Samford, us somewhere in the poll. But I think folks are just saying, it was just one game and they are ranking the teams for what has been and what they believe will be their body of work. I don't agree with that entirely. I think more weight to actual performance that what is theoretical/anticipated strength. I try to go somewhere in the middle of that. Plus if we were to play again in a week or two, in
Charleston say, not sure the outcome would be the same. It might be, but probably not. Look at The Citadel Wofford games last year. I think that is what "some" folks think. Again, people figure things differently. It will shake out every game played. Early mid year polls are obviously not as accurate as towards the end. If we beat Mercer, Wofford and WCU, and Furman, then this might be pretty dang accurate. All ifs mind you. It is an interesting debate on how to rank teams. But I still think you are over us right now after watching that horrible performance by us.

Well last year STATS had SHSU as the clear #1 from mid-October on and the playoff selection committee didn't exactly see eye to eye with them on that so I wouldn't count on it.

However, I do think that if SHSU wins out they could slide into a #7 or #8 seed if things go reasonably well for them amongst the rest of the seed contenders.

Beat a ranked Liberty team that beat Baylor at their home field. Worth at least a #25 slot.

Beat a ranked Liberty team that beat Baylor at their home field. Worth at least a #25 slot.

Oh the transitive property. You honestly cannot believe that?

Why no love for Saint Francis?

Defending NEC champs, lost by just 10 at Villanova last year in the playoffs in a tightly played affair.

Red Flash are 3-1 this season with a win over Liberty (last ranked at #22 in the STATS FCS poll). Lost by just 2 vs. Towson.

SFU is 10-3 vs. NEC opponent since 2015. Certainly this deserves consideration given by pollsters to PL (Fordham, Holy Cross) or Ivy (Harvard, Princeton) over this season.

1st off, last year does not count.

2nd, Losing to Towson is bad. Towson is awful this year. Liberty also almost loss to ISUb which is another bad team. Beating Baylor is not a good win since Baylor might be the worst P5 team in the FBS. Considering Liberty is your toughest team on your schedule, do not expect to see any love any time soon.

the real answer is simple - Double standards. We like some schools/conferences and don't like others. It is that plain and simple and AGS is full of it.

What was the excuse for the votes for Fordham (#23 - Preseason poll), Colgate (#21 - week 1 poll), Lehigh (#17 - week 1 poll), Holy Cross (#23 - week 4 poll) this season?

Can someone explain this?

SFU is #30 (50 points) in AGS week 3 poll, and by week 4 they drop out - and are replaced by 3 Ivy League teams:

Princeton (#30 / 34 points)
Penn (#36 / 25 points)
Yale (#39 / 15 points)

Penn gets votes for beating Ohio Dominican and Lehigh? Really .. well why not just consider Wagner too? When does the madness stop?

The consideration and "benefit" give to Patriot and Ivy League teams is a joke. The AGS poll is just as biased for certain schools/conferences as the Coaches poll.

Sagarin puts SFU 168. For comparison, Delaware is at 154.

I don't have either one in my Top 25.

But then again, I could be biased against my own team.

Preseason and Week 1 polls are a crap shoot and everyone knows that. No one should have voted for Holy Cross, but people believe the UNH game was not a fluke, turns out it was. SFU lost to Towson. How much needs to be said by this. The one team outside of Liberty to prove their case, and they lose to a bottom 3 CAA team. No love is going to be given. Look at what happened to UND for a prime example. Anyone who votes for Patriot or Ivy league teams this year as of right now, should have their voting rights revoked. Again, SFU has ZERO reason to garner votes, zero! There is no bias in this poll. Anyone who thinks the AGS poll is "biased" needs to start voting then. I do not know anyone who would argue that the poll is biased, outside of SHSU fans, but that is a whole different beast.

The difference is, Delaware has played competition. I am not happy with my #24 and #25 spots, but there was more reason for UD to be there than SFU.

The sad thing is, I do not think there are 25 teams worthy of vote but looking at how people fared, Delaware, by virtue of everyone else sucking horribly this week, might have a case to have people voting for them.

http://www.fcs.football/cfb/boxscore.asp?gamecode=201709020221&home=221&vis=147&final=true

Just check out the stats from Towson's game against 0-4 Morgan State. Awful is pretty fitting.

This is the gist as to why SFU is not a top 25 team.

And then Clenz went on to cut me deep. I probably deserved it thugh for calling myself something I probably should not have. Those MVSU FANs can be a tough crowd I tell you.

OK, maybe better for me to say if APSU can threaten JSU. A 34-14 final is not threatening. However, I watched the game on streaming, and if JSU doesn't focus better than they did against Tenn. Tech, then they probably will be threatened.
