Your typical small school star linebacker who just lacks the beast qualities for the next level but very good for what you want in the SLC. I actually like Goins of McNeese State more as a player.

Stewart is your best offensive player. Yes, I said it. I like Briscoe and think he could get drafted but Stewart is your most physically talented player.

The words "next level" never came up in my post. I thought this was a thread about FCS players of the year watch list not what players have pro potential. Dolan put up beast numbers last year and is doing so this year..at the FCS level...about 11.5 tackles per game.

Since this thread is about FCS players of the year, here's his stats from last year, which will likely fall this year at his pace:


2016: Dolan became the first Associated Press and STATS All-America selection in HBU football history...
was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which honors the FCS Defensive Player of the Year…
earned All-Southland Conference First-Team honors, his third-straight all-conference selection…started all 11 games as a junior…

I agree his stats don't match up at this point. But they've come against some good opponents (and 1 less game than most) - #16 FBS Washington State, #3 SDSU and then ranked UND.

Yes, but as you know the Payton is about stats. Can't be a WR on the final 20 and have an average of 57 yards per game. Sadly, voters won't overlook it. I'll put him back in if he is averaging over 100 a game and keeps putting up numbers. Just like Timon Parris has not done anything to warrant me removing him but it is tough for the OL and I kept Parker on because he is tearing up the MEAC. I'll keep updating as we go and I'm sure Wieneke will end up back on.

I guess when I hear the word beast I think of someone who is playing a level above by far. He is a great FCS player and I expect him to repeat as an All-American for sure. I wish he was two steps faster and then I think he would be a prospect.

What's crazy is he more than doubled his season totals from the first 3 games in all those categories. Looks like on the season he has 33 catches for 584 yards and 5 TDs (4 games).

According to Acklin's bio (http://goleathernecks.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=12179&path=football) he had 21 career catches for 364 yards and 2 TDs coming into this season. I meant it more, as in without McShane (since he was nulfied for 10car for 15yds), is Acklin that good or does WIU always rely on that "one guy" and he just became that "one guy". Kind of like Chase Edmonds at Fordham, Tarik Cohen at NCAT, etc...

Possibly... but it seems like with these watch lists are purely based on numbers and little else. He certainly has the numbers at this point.

No disagreeing there, but if he ends up being "The Guy" at WIU for receiving, I don't know if he will replicate it once defenses key on him. As of now, no reason to exclude him, but the Valley will tell us how good he really is.

Yea, Acklin is definitely really good...is he Payton Watch List good?...I don't think he's shown himself to be at that level yet. I don't think we'll see a performance quite like that again this season, although he could have some really good games against SIU and MSU. I want to see how he does against NDSU and IL State's defenses before really going in on him being at that level (we don't play YSU this season, otherwise that'd be a great test too). In the meantime, he's a great weapon to have for us, regardless of where he might end up in the final award voting.

EDIT - one more thought on this...it didn't look like a record-breaking day to most of us watching. We got to our band alumni gathering at BWW after the game and I was looking at the stats. Everyone I told about his yardage in the game, how it set the school and conference record, was flabbergasted. So, it really didn't "seem" like a record-breaking game for him, but part of that could be that the announcer didn't mention anything about it during the game and we didn't really realize he was being targeted quite that much.
