Malcolm Elder,RB, Carver's Bay HS, 5-8 175, 4.4sec 40
2006 stats Att 286 Yds 2113 Avg 7.38 TDs 30
2005 stats 2,463yds 30 TDs
He could have easily doubled his 2006 stats but he only played in the first half of most games. The 1 game I saw last season, he had 300+ yards and 4 TDs in the 1st quarter. His nickname is Eddie George.

Elder is a nice RB. I've heard grades are an issue though. Nice pick up either way. First Malcolm Long, now Malcolm Elder...two nice additions for SC State.

His nickname is Eddie George? At 5'8" 175 I hope his nickname is "LT" not Eddie George.

What's going on with SC State? Nothing against them, but they are taking a lot of risks with guys that other schools won't touch. These guys are certainly great athletes, but if they don't pan out in the classroom then the team may face reduced number of scholarships.

There is a guy that Clemson wouldn't admit, so he tried Coastal. Coastal wouldn't admit him eaiter. Now he's going to SC State - anyone else see a possible problem with this?

FYI

Wilkerson Headed To State
By Phil Kornbut

Former Shrine Bowl linebacker and Clemson commitment Julius Wilkerson (6-3 205) will sign Wednesday with South Carolina State according to his coach Phil Strickland. Wilkerson committed to Clemson last February but did not sign because he had not qualified at the time. According to Strickland, Wilkerson has since made the grades and the test score to qualify and had been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse, but Clemson's admissions department did not accept him. As a high school senior Wilkerson made 196 tackles. As a junior he made 151 tackles.

What about.....

Quattlebaum decommits from Colorado to sign with SCSU

And...
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Ferguson hasn't been getting the attention that Jones did before he committed to North Carolina, but several schools are interested.

"I've been getting letters from North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida," he said. "I've been working and don't have the transportation to get to some of the junior days and camps, so I haven't made many unofficial visits yet."

And...
Charles Jones, a 6-foot-4, 300-pounder from Lake View, took his second unofficial visit to Clemson in less than a month.

Folks always seem to find the possible negative issue...and I emphasize possible negative..Wilkerson has qualified but Clemson doesn't want him ...maybe they are out of scholarships...I am glad some of the top athletes are starting to support the HBCUs....especially SC State...

Pitbull - the articles have always stated that Wilkerson was approved by the NCAA, but two other SC colleges won't admit him. Why is that? It isn't about scholarships as I believe the football team really wanted him, it is the admissions office he couldn't get past.

edit ... let me add that I wish all of the players and SC State luck as I respect the program tons, but I just hope that the university is thinking long term.

Thanks and I hope we aren't shooting ourselves in the foot but knowing Coach Pough I feel confident he has done his homework...
