Funny you mention hockey, our club hockey team has been on a quest to raise $1.5 million to retrofit McDonald Arena, our very old former basketball gym north of the stadium for an ice sheet. Somehow, they have raised half the amount needed - $750,000. Remember, this is club hockey, they have no affiliation with the athletic department.

Meanwhile, our athletic department tried and failed to raise the needed $109,000 to buy out the last year of Terry Allen's contract after the 2013 season.

So, to recap, club hockey draws $750,000. Football cannot draw $109,000.

The Bison's style of offense lends to some close games to start the game but watching the Bears defense I don't think the Bison will struggle.

The only way this is close is if the Bison turn it over multiple times in their own end.

Starters will sit the 3rd and 4th. By the 4th quarter NDSU will be getting reps from the starters moms, dads, the equipment guys and a few pretzel vendors.

On 1660 today coach K said the defensive starters have averaged only 12 snaps per game.....wow.

If the regular rotation stays in this whole game, MSU is held under 200 yards and probably gets a FG.

Young guys are getting valuable experience so far. Good.

Looking forward to a full game....well maybe.

Only long drive MSU had in the first half was greatly aided by the bogus targeting call. The defense tackling poorly could just as easily be due to them being out there so much. Unless I'm mistaken the Bison had 9 offensive plays on 3 drives in the 2nd quarter.

The white hat was awful. A couple times he came trailing into a play throwing a flag as about the 3rd or 4th closest official to the play. They picked it up for one call (which he apparently thought was an NDSU player blocking too hard???) but one stood (the unsportsmanlike on Zach Johnson on one of Dunn's TDs).
