In an offensive explosion over the past four days, the Phillies blasted the vaunted Marlins pitching, with 38 runs. Granted, there were some horrible errors by Florida, but the pitchers, including Willis got hammered as well. Moreover, Padilla has now had two quality starts back to back. The NL East is going to get tighter than a ......well, you fill in the rest ;)

In a clinic on pitching the WHite Sox swept the Cleveland Indians in a 4 game series in Cleveland for the first time since 1963. Sox starting pitching had 27 IP, 3 ER and a 4-0 record. The Sox have now opened a 12 game lead over MInnesota and hold an amazing 30-5 record vs the AL Central

Golly, that was the era of Gary Peters and Joel Horlen!

...nun's a**h***!

Hope springs eternal. Let's see if Wade does a deal by 7/31.

Groundhog day in Philadelphia

1... Phillies play just well enough stay somewhat competitive
2... Ed Wade makes another meaningless trade
3... Phillies finish out of the playoffs... a few games over 500

"I got you, babe!"

I wouldn't bet against that result. If the Phils trade either Howard or Utley, Phillie fans will hang Wade from a light tower at the Cit.

Meanwhile the Atlanta Braves activate Hudson and Hampton over the weekend, and Chipper Jones will be activated and start tonight in 'Frisco.

The Braves will be in first place by August 1 and then the battle will be for the wildcard, which all you guys' Phillies have a chance at, IF they don't sell the farm.

absolutely--we've certainly heard all the stuff about Howard--but UTLEY?! Why in heaven's name would that be raised with what he is doing and after getting rid of Polanco?
I won't be surprised if they're shopping Thome to an AL team--problem is his contract. If they're serious about staying in the race, they should keep Wagner, but there are rumors he could be going to Boston. He's a free agent at the end of the year and money is the biggest motivator for moves these days.

T-minus 9 days and counting for Wade to do a meaningful deal. Todd Worrell to the D-backs for a minor leaguer doesn't count.

I'd rather Ed Wade do nothing. There isn't anybody out there Wade could acquire that would jump-start these underachievers. I'd rather he NOT do something. I'm worried he'll trade away someone they should keep (i.e., Howard.) Last year he foolishly traded Rickey Ledee, who was their best bench player (yes, better than Jason Michaels).

You may be right, there, Marcus. Wade is so inept that he could f-up a one-car funeral. Maybe I should settle for an 83-79 year and getting rid of both Wade and that other Einstein, Charlie Manuel!

Pat Burrell's increasing strikeout totals will provide more breeze at the Cit on hot nights.

The only deal I could see the Phils doing is a package with Wagner and Thome. I hate to see Wagner leave, but realize his free agency status. With Urbina now showing signs of stabilizing in his new surroundings this is beginning seem plausible. I'd still like to see the Phils 'stand pat' if the alternative is mortgaging the future. But if they can get a 'rising' catcher or an upgrade at 3B, without losing Utley and Howard, then maybe we still might be surprised. But if Wade trades either of these two, I will seriously consider dropping my season tickets.
