No, but when offenses have to commit two lineman to contain PJ, that frees up another defender to get after the QB.

ACU QB Sealey has 55 yards rushing and 693 yards passing. 66% completion.
SHSU QB Briscoe has 29 yards rushing and 703 yards passing. 59% completion.
UCA QB Hildebrand has 76 yards rushing and 743 yards passing. 73% completion.

Not much difference in those stats except Hildebrand and Briscoe have 2 INTs while Sealey has 4. But the biggest difference is SHSU has 3 WRs that pretty much lead the league in receiving, two with 100 yards per game (well one 98, so pretty much also). Defenses have to not only cover those 3 but get enough pressure on the QB to make it difficult. Kats can score quickly with minimal coverage breakdowns.

Briscoe isn't that good. We just have receivers that catch anything near them. With any other teams receivers he'd only complete about 30% of his passes.

Briscoe two games played vs the other guys 3.

On a per game basis, Briscoe's stats are clearly above the other two. It should be noted though that both of the other schools have played tougher OOC schedules, largely because SHSU does not have a FBS opponent this year which hurts its SOS.

No argument that Briscoe will still dominate as the season progresses, only that early season stats are misleading on several levels.

No excuses.

I mean i get it and all, but at some point the "no excuses" movement just sounded like fake toughness.

Sports are played by players. The better the players on the team, the better the team plays. When less of those players can play, the quality of play goes down. That's not an excuse, it's factual.

If you get flat tires, you won't be making it to work on time. It's still an absence and maybe not even excused, but at the end of the day, facts are facts.

Don't have any predictions, but I do want to say how beautiful Wildcat Stadium looked on the streaming last week. I think ACU did that up absolutely right. CONGRATS!!!Thank you for the kind words SU DOG. It was a long time coming for ACU football and we couldn't be prouder to call it home.

Same as last season. James Tabary, who is a junior. He is doing well so far but having to run for his life sometimes. Only problem with the running is that he is a pocket passer and doesn't run worth a *****. ;)

Ah, good man. Hehe, he had an arm on him, that's for sure.

Nice write up. But I think McNeese is probably ahead of ACU at this point and nwu is ahead of SFA. SELA is probably 5 or 6. Time will tell.

Well, maybe............if we can get our six guns out of our holsters without shooting ourselves in the foot. ;) We have been our own worst enemies in the Nicholls and Alcorn St. games so far.

Doc

McNeese played at Alcorn with 12 to 14 players out, played a lot of young guys. Don't know if all or any of them will be back for HBU. Finding out anything about the football team is harder than getting secrets from the Kremlin. This will be the first ever meeting between the football Huskies and Cowboys.

An interesting bit of trivia for the ACU SFA game this weekend is that SFA QB Foster Sawyer and ACU backup QB Luke Anthony both went to All Saints Episcopal in FW. Anthony replaced Sawyer after he graduated. Anthony's parents are also the namesake for Anthony Field and it's really cool that Luke was able to throw a TD pass in the opening game.

I am not one of the famous (or infamous) sandbaggers. McNeese, for the last several years, just can't seem to escape the injury bug. We are to get a new turf next year (was supposed to be in this year, but something didn't work out), and maybe that will help. The good thing is that we have a lot of young guys getting experience. And it didn't start snowing until the 4th quarter!

I didn't make the game or there would be one. I saw it on TV and immediately thought maybe it would jinx Alcorn like the black cat did us against SDSU in 2006.

That dog was just as much bad luck for Alcorn State as this cat was for us against South Dakota St. in 2006. Everything was going good in that game until that black cat ran across the field and then everything started going wrong.

SELA looks like a contender for the league title. It goes to show how strong of a conference the Southland has become.

That is our team we saw on the field Saturday. When Nunez got hurt on final drive against ULL and couldn't play in games two or three it changed our team. We had no QB depth coming into the season and it showed in those two games. In fact they pulled a redshirt of a true freshmen QB to be second string because we had no one else. With Nunez back at 100% we can play with anyone. We have an uphill battle for sure and our young defense is getting better every week. Hanging with Sam is gonna be tough.

Nunez made a HUGE difference in the UCA game when he got in. Kid is a talent that makes his receivers better. But you gotta firm up that Oline or he will be running for his life again.

Watched the HBU/McNeese game. Don't know how HBU defense didn't strangle their offense. D and special teams were keeping Huskies in the game by getting turnovers, then Huskies offense would turn it right back over with fumbles within feet of scoring and dumb throws that turned into interceptions.

Could say the same thing about the McNeese defense/offense. The Cowboys defense shut down the HBU offense most of the game. The Cowboys offense lived in the red zone most of the first half with little to show for it.
